After turning 70, I think you'll find that you begin to enjoy yourself even more than you did before. Take it from me; I know about these things.

My mother was a bozoette in High School. Guess that makes me old, too. May you enjoy young friends and old whiskey.

That seems to be a universal experience. I often find myself relating to people and situations as if I'm still in my late 20s or early 30s -- a period when I was just really figuring out who I was and what I might accomplish with it. And some mornings I look in the mirror and I'm a little surprised not to see my 30-year-old self looking back. It's certainly not a bad thing. I feel like a very young 69-year-old.

Even as a college instructor, I'm surprised when I find younger men looking up to me as some kind of wise old sage. I do try to make the most of it in a positive way.

I've always been struck by a comment by American poet Robert Bly, who said, "If you are a young man and you're not being praised by older men, you're being hurt." That points to a solemn responsibility that we have as older men.

That's okay; mentoring is a lot of fun.

Ah, youth! 60's, 70's.... If I make it 4 more months, and I fully intend to, I will be 86. But, as Sakrison says, that universal feeling of being young continues. I have about 100 kits to build, so I should be looking for some more in about 10 years! Jim

I just read a Facebook post by a 93-year-old who celebrated his birthday by riding his bicycle 93 miles in one day. That's the kind of 93-year-old I plan to be.

I put 800 miles on my recumbent in 2020, but I never got around to "riding my age" (69 mile ride). I want to do that sometime this summer. I need to look for a really pleasant 70-mile bike route. Then, turn me loose on my "really fast lawn chair"!

Jim

Having that many kits is a great incentive to live another 50 years or so.

I will also be joining the septuagenarian club in June. Man, where did the time go? It seems like only yesterday I was driving around in my VW bus, decked out in bell bottom jeans and a home made tie dyed t-shirt. Still with my high school sweetheart, though.
