WWII Italian Air Force References?
Does anyone know of any (english language) good descriptions, campaigns, stories or what have you about the Italian air force in WWII? Anything from the colonial days through the Balkans and down either side to the end of the war?

Seems like there was a Squadron Signal book............. I know they have one on the SM- 79 (got that), but I seem to remember on on the Itailian Air Force. I could be wrong.
I also have "The Hamlyn Concise Guide to Axis Aircraft of World War II" by David Mondey that has some stuff too. If you need something specific, holler and I can see if I got anything and can send you some scans. john Last edited by John Bowden; 09-16-2007 at 10:07 PM. |

Squadron Signal published 2 volumes on the WWII Italian Air Force in 1976. A complete reference with color side views and hundreds of photos. No three views.
Titls was Regia Aeronautica Vol. 1 and Regia Aeronautica Vol. 2. Don't know if these are still in print or not. If not, check used book dealers. ISBN number for Vol. 1 is ISBN 0-89747-060-5 Vol. 2 is ISBN 0-89747-185-7. Note that all ISBN numbers changed on January 1, 2007, but most book dealers still carry dual listings. Type the ISBN number into Amazon's search box for a starting point. Some very odd and very unknown planes in these two tomes. Al, wb4jjj |

Check out Wikipedia. I's loaded (as usual) with information and links.

The history site http://www.comandosupremo.com/index.shtml has some information on the Regia Aeronautica.

Thanks all,
The Squadron books are OOP, but available. I'll try to track those down. I've found some decent web references, but I like books from a tactile, traditional, and portability point of view. What I'd really like to find are some pilot memoirs or diaries of the sort that are rampant in the RAF and Luftwaffe arena. |

Osprey publications offers a book on Italian Aces of WWII that should have some of the kind of information you're looking for: http://www.ospreypublishing.com/titl...hp/title=S0781
It probably has a useful bibliography, as well. Oh, nothing to do with the Regia Aeronautica, but they also publish a book about U.S. Army forces in the Korean War by a guy named "Boose" (cough cough) http://www.ospreypublishing.com/titl...hp/title=S6216 Don B. |
