Exclamation Is 4Shared legit?

I'd like to download a model from Papermau, but it seems the download is routed through a file sharing site called 4Shared. I'm not familiar with this site. There seems to be some concern on the web that 4Shared infects your computer with spyware.

Anyone have experience with 4Shared?

4shared is just a file sharing/hosting site/company.

Unfortunately, like all those companies, they rely on advertising and they don't care who advertises there.
Be carefully of misdirection links, pop-ups, false links, etc
Its not 4shared fault, they just don't control it.

Make sure you have Ad-blockers, pop-up blockers, anti-malware, etc and you'll be safe.
Make sure you only click on the proper download link.

...
I actually like 4shared for their compliance to copyright rules.
They don't monitor what illegal stuff is being shared through their site,
but, if you complain about something, and provide the proper dmca report, they remove copyright violations very fast!
They've done it for me.

It's fine - used it a lot. Just be careful as Dave has pointed out above to click on the right link and not get sidetracked by any other links.

I try to gibe my personal advice.
Personally, I use Firefox as browser, in the last few versions introduced some privacy protection features that avoid unwanted tracking.
Furthermore, as recommended by airdave, also install addons as ad blocker, so you cab see a cleaner page. I use NoScript, that blocks unwanted scripts possibly loaded by the page.
Happy browsing!
