Oh, I don't know... There's this model that Wataru Itou of Japan spent four years building, and it has lights, a train, and fills up a whole room... It can be seen here:
A Paper Craft Castle on the Ocean That would qualify as the ultimate paper model, to me. I would nominate my own 1/200 Montana-class Battleship, but the plans and kit aren't anywhere close to being finished. |

What about the Makit Brussels Marketplace? the artwork (i.e. colouring) is absolutely superior to anything else. Sadly, long sold out and very rare...

If we're talking about particular builds rather than particular kits, then I have been recently most impressed by Eibwarrior's 1/100 Arizona, Bomarc's Mitchell, and Doris' HMS Victory. But these mastercraftsmen (and mastercraftswomen) could likely produce stunning results from any kit, no matter the quality.
