X-15
Anybody know where I might score a model of the X-15? I'm reading a book about the X-15 program and am having the urge to build one. Any help would be much appreciated!

What book? Always like this kind of reading.... I just designed one, but the instructions aren't done and it is a stomp rocket. Mike |

The title of the book is Rocketship X-15 by Myron Gubitz. It was published in 1960. I found it at a library book sale. Pretty interesting stuff for someone like me who never really thought much about the X-15 program.

You're welcome!
Thanks for the title of the book! Will look on ebay for a copy, haven't read that one yet! Another great book on Rocket Plane flying is by William Bridgeman flying the D558-II Skyrocket. Title is "The Lonely Sky". One of the best is about flying the ME163 in combat. "Rocket Fighter" by Mano Ziegler. Ebay didn't have , but, I found 3-of them on amazon. Look forward to reading it! When done reading that book, if you'd like another book on the X-15 to read, NASA offers a free PDF download of the book "X-15: Extending the Frontiers of Flight" by Dennis R. Jenkins:
http://www.aeronautics.nasa.gov/eboo..._of_Flight.pdf It's a large download (644 pages!), so give it some time. Link to the NASA document page: NASA - Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate Mike

I have the book, Rocket Fighter in my library. An excellent book. It took a special breed of cat to fly an ME-163, I would say. Thanks, bomarc, for the link to the NASA book. Years ago I read their book, This New Ocean, about Project Mercury. A good read if you are interested in the early space program. I googled it and found a couple of places where it is available as an ebook.

If you'd like a simpler model than the Ken West version e-cardmodels sells Fiddlers Green has an X-15 as well. While we're on the subject both of these models depict the X-15 after it was converted to the long fuselage A2 version. Is there an early version out there?

Do you have the paperback or hardbound? Hardbound has lots of photos! It takes a special type to watch a couple blow-up on take, knowing you're number 3... There are 2-books with the title Rocket Fighter, the best is the one by Mano Ziegler-first person account of flying them. The next best on rocket plane flying is "The Lonely Sky". Bomarc, thanks for the NASA link. Already downoaded and the read is excellent so far! Best regards, Mike Bauer |

One of NOBI's first models was an X-15 he released for free. Not sure if it is available anymore, but I believe I have it here and will send it to you if PM me with your email address.
