First Planks of Bluenose II/III laid
Not sure how many out there know of the Bluenose but in case you do not.
The Bluenose was a fishing and racing schooner built in Nova Scotia during the 1920's. She was used for both fishing and racing and was sold to work the West Indies trade route after world war two. She sank off the coast of Haiti in 1946. A second vessel was built to commemorate her in 1962-63 and as a marketing tool by a local brewer 'Schooner Beer'. The Bluenose is Nova Scotia's sailing ambassador to the world and it was decided to rebuild the ship with a considerable amount of changes (modernization) at a cost under $14 million. To see the first plank being laid. Check out the link below. A paper model would make for a great subject for anyone interested as this schooner is a one and only. Thanks for the info Steve. If anyone is interested in the original Bluenose's distinguished racing career in the working boats version of the America's Cup check out this site History of the original Bluenose racing schooner from Nova Scotia. Bluenose II Company Store
In an 18-year racing career, Bluenose did not once give up the International Fishermen's trophy. There is some good film footage on youtube as well. |
