had us a little accident

have been upgrading my workspace putting up some shelves to store my tools and parts for some ongoing models
well today my kid wanted to take a look at it and when he opened a drawer in the cabinet where i have some of my tools the whole smack followed the drawer falling down on my desk hitting him on the way down
he was more shocked than hurt luckily and got scared, did not feel that yelling at him would have changed anything so i just told him it was ok "but you could have asked me first before touching anything"

a couple of models were crushed beyond saving, like the SR-71 from Mike Bauer in original size, the A3 model made it at the parts cut out only flattened and did not get wrinkled, my Titanic, well it sank to half it's allready small size , the Air Transat Airbus 330 from Julesis is kinda flat from the mid body and back to the tailsection, the mars rover from Ton met it's demise as the top shelf after falling almost 60 centimeters clipped it dead center

on the good side though:
Barry's Colossus made it as it was in a plastic document storage unit (don't know what it's called in english), the same goes for answer's T-38 Talon :D
so in the end i't just paper which can be reprinted, recut and reassembled
now if these models would have been made of plastic

i might add that the bottom shelf responsible for this mess has now been securely fastened to its railings
i know - why did i not do it from the start - well, mea culpa but i did not think that my kid would do what he did
and yes daddy learned a lesson here :D

Accidents can and will happen. Looking on the positive side of things, you now get to put up new things to display!

Glad the kid is okay too. He probably learned his lesson too. I know I did when i broke my arm at 4 years old after climbing onto the wardrobe to get something from a shelf...

I have steel shelving which has a bend in the center when my (then 6 year old) daughter climbed up the shelves to get something on top.
That was over 30 years ago; luckily the shelving did not fall over on her.

I'll take that one to heart. We're working on our basement right now. When it's done, I'll have a nice little desk area with shelving around it for display and storage. I'll remember to anchor EVERYTHING!!!

Glad your son is okay. Mine broke his leg last summer when he fell off the porch railing. He climbed up there real quick. I never thought a 2 year old could do that. Now he's 3 and just as dare devilish.

Let me get this straight. A kid, son of a willygoat, has a natural inclination to climb things. Sounds normal to me, I see it every day on the Animal Planet channel. I know, that's a baaaad comparison. :D

Boys will be boys. Most important thing is he didn't get hurt and it was a learning experience for father and son.:D
My 2 year old just broke his arm this past Wednesday playing Superman right off his bed onto the floor. Times like these though makes you realize how much you love them and how lucky you are to have them.

Just wait till they start getting the real dare devil streak going. Just remember it's just practice now!

Like when your 10-y/o goes off eagle rock (50+ ft high) on his new snow board, soon after, as you get on the Quad chair lift, there is a sign with your name on it...

Best regards,
Mike Bauer
