Big mistake by Ford in my opinion. Know many unhappy police and limo drivers.

These cars were bombs on 4 wheels. The rear gas tank was one of the worst of designs (almost as bad as a Pinto) and the cars were notorious for blowing up in rear collisions. Since 1992, at least 14 police officers, and as many as 30, have died in Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser fuel-fed fires. Ford conducted internal studies showing the rate of rear-end collision fire deaths for CVPIs was almost 140% higher than for the competitive GM line and about double the rate for Ford’s much smaller Escort line.

Gas Tank Explosions - Crown Victoria Police Car Explosions

The YouTube Video is by Ford, trying to sell a fire suppression system on these sh_t boxes. My sister, a Police Officer for 8 years, almost got killed when hers was rear ended and blew up, she had just stepped out to right a ticket. A drunk hit her car, which hit her, pushing her out of the way, caught fire, and the trip through the air damaged her Spine. The paper models are far safer.

Wonder what the cops are going to use for patrol cars now, seems like all of them are Crown vic's! They just rolled the last one off the assembly line, ain't gonna be no more!
