Very beautiful Bluenoser

It is a real pleasure to see this model finished, as it was a pleasure to follow you through the process.

Thanks for sharing this nice piece.

Now you have a "bus" that won't rust out on you.
A very nice project. Inspires me to do the truck version with the fancy bottom.

nice bus!

VERY nicely done and well-documented for us. thanks for taking on this project!

btw, your model doesn't have turn signals in the nose because your model is of an earlier vintage than the photo you compared it too. What you have instead are semaphores (you can see them printed on the b-pillar just aft of the front doors).

I don't recall the year VW made the transition to "standard" turn lamps. Fog/driving lamps were always an after-market item as well.

Very nice!

This reminds me of the VW Bus that was owned by a farmer friend I used to work for when I was a kid.

In 1966, he and his wife took a trip to Israel and the Middle East. He bought the bus while there, and drove it all over the region. He then shipped it home to Indiana.

He never washed it; saying that the underside was touched by holy dirt from the holy land.

Great Build!

Ken

Thankyou for for all your kind comments guys.
Semaphores.... I was wondering what that printing was supposed to be on the B-pillar. I wish I had one of these old buses with all the windows.

I had one! Bought new in 1964, and kept it until 1969. I really liked it because it was "different", had a lot of room, and looked great. But not for long. Within a couple of years it had a lot of rust. Had it painted, and in three months it was rusting again. Replaced the motor in 67 when a valve broke and fell into the engine and wrecked it all. I traded it to a college kid in return for painting the trim on my house. He painted it with what ever color paint he was using on his jobs, drove it to California one summer, and the last I know, he was still driving it four years later!

As I recall, the initial price was $1800. A local place that has restored vehicles had one recently. Exactly like the one I had - sun roof, roof windows, chrome around rear windows...the works. And the price? $25,000. I didn't buy it.

Great model! And you ability to overcome fit problems, etc. speaks well of your skills!

Jim

Really captured the look of the little beastie. Can imagine it toddling up Hwy 1 at 45mph to get to Big Sur.
