Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX
Hi all,
Seeing that I would get yelled at for not providing pictures and a thread on the build of the car, I thought it would be better for me to head all the yellers off at the pass, and post some thoughts and more importantly pictures of the build. The car which I am building is the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX, Winner of the Rally Japan WRC Group N, driven by K. Taguchi, and M. Stacey. The car is available from the Epson Nakajima site http://www.epson.jp/nakajima/craft/index.htm and the specific car page is located here http://www.epson.jp/nakajima/craft/lanevo2007/index.htm The model itself is quite simple, but every now and again I like them, 23 total parts, and only 2 sheets, with 2 sheets of assembly diagrams. To me the most tedious part of the car are the wheels/tires, so even though these were quite simple I decided to do them first anyway. I am done scoring the parts that need scoring, and next will be cutting them all out, and shaping them according to the diagrams. I have been using paper lollipop sticks, which you can get at any craft supply store, usually 50 for a buck or a buck and half, and I use the stick in conjunction with an old mousepad to roll the tires, and parts that need or warrant a curve or roll. I picked that up from a JFS kit I did many moons ago, and never got around to finishing. Hopefully the Lancer Evo will not befall the same fate. Rick

Here we are again,
I have just finished up the second most tedious thing, cutting all the of parts out. I have not cut out the 3 minor sub assemblies yet, the running lights, the rear wing and air intake for on the roof of the car. So hopefully after my Woodturning Guild meeting tomorrow evening, I should be able to start gluing bits together. Rick

Nice work, Rick. I have little experience with these more complex automobiles and so am looking forward to seeing the next steps. My current project is a 1/48 scale M-37 3/4-ton truck to go with my KoWar era L-20 Beaver. It's fairly simple, but a step forward for me. This thread is a good learning experience for me.

Actually Don, the Lancer is considered the easy version
There are a couple of the race cars and the transporter truck, which are considered the high end models, more detailed parts, more parts overall. That is why I like to do the simple ones from time to time, keeps you on your toes, you still get to do the model, but you can experiment a bit more, test out certain techniques and the like. Which brings me to today's post, I skipped out on the meeting, my dad and I weren't really interested in the offered schedule of events, so I came home and slid into my chair and started forming, shaping, and folding the parts for Step 1 of the build diagram. This is the end result, I am pleased with my glue up, seeing that this is a simple model, I didn't do any edge coloring, but on others I would have. Step 2, will be the rear end, decklid, bumper, and other parts, once that and the front are assembled, it is an easy slide into the finish. Rick

Well I have a car, at least a paper one, definitely looks like a Lancer, doesn't sound like one though
I managed to finish the entire car, save for the bottom, wheels, and other race car bits. I am satisfied with the model as it is, there are some alignment problems but I think I need to spend some time with the printer and the drivers, didn't have this problem before I upgraded them. But all in all, a good evening of building, even though OJ interupted quite a few times in order to make certain I knew who was the boss around the house. The rear end assembly went on with out too much pushing, mushing or the like, the front, that is where I noticed the alignment problems, Oh Well, live and learn. Depending on how long Game 1 takes of the Eastern Conference Finals, I should be able to put wheels and a bottom on the car, and maybe on Saturday after the NASCAR race, I might be able to put the intake, wing, lights and mirrors on the car and call it done Rick
