A short progress report. We have the beginnings of an engine:
which will eventually look a bit like this: There's quite a bit to go before I can start butchering paper again, though. Alan |

Design continues apace. Well, actually a-snail's-pace - too much else seems to be happening at the moment. It has been too long since I wielded knife and glue, so I needed something to satisfy my craving. Rather than giving up and starting something else entirely, I have got going on the engine even though not all of it is designed. I just have to hope that there are no major changes to come and invalidate it all.
So, a start on building up the layers: and adding the exhaust valve spring and outlet port Yes, the profile is distinctly crooked, but the real thing is small enough for it not to be too noticeable, especially when it goes inside the frame. |

More fins...
... and more, plus the top and bottom. This is why I chose the 1911 model and not the 1910 - I love those radial cooling fins. And yes, I know that one of the base fixing bolts is missing. In fact two failed (for different reasons) so I'll have to print off some more with the next batch of parts. Now back to some design and drawing - oh, and Christmas, which will set me back a few days. Happy Christmas or other festival to all. Alan |

This must have been tedious, but it was well worth the effort!

Love it!
Alan, I love the detail you're building into this model. Doing one of the Yamaha motorcycles is near the top of my list, but when your kit is finished it will definitely be ahead of those.
Your skill is inspiring. The fins and layers are so finely and uniformly cut that they look laser cut. Very ispiring. Steve

What Gil said. I am also grateful for being able to watch your frame-making technique. Very useful also for other subjects, like exhaust manifolds, and all kinds of bent tubes, of course. Thanks!

The crank case and magneto drive came together quite easily. The thickness of the central flange and the drive covers comes from laminated card; they are too thin for a pure built-up construction.
Now the moment of truth - will it fit? Just, but fortunately "just" is enough. I'll not fix them together yet - there is a good deal of fitting and adjustment to come. Alan |
