I've made wheel wells a few different ways: first, the way they are done on the Firebirds now with the wheel well connected to the outer edge of the fender flares (a remnant of how I learned to model cars). The second is very similar, except the wheel well connects to the base of the fender flare instead of the edge (the same place where the body and fender flare meet): The wheel is glued to directly onto the inside of the wheel well. The third is similar to yours, imcold. It has a wheel well that is mainly cosmetic; it only attaches at the bottom where it meets the undercarriage, and the fender goes over it. The wheel is then centered on an axle that is glued to the bottom of the undercarriage (it works best for vehicles that have some distance off the ground). I'm not sure how sturdy it would be if the wheel was glued directly onto the wheel well (for a shorter car?) but maybe it would work: I kind of like this method compared to the other two I've used; it seems easier to assemble. Still learning... But I think redesigning it is worth considering.

First, nice job!
Second what software are you using to convert your 3d model to paper? Pepakura? Third how many polys is your model and whats the limit for the software you are using to convert it? I have a few models that i want to convert and build as I also work in the 3d. |

I am using Pepakura. As far as I know, there isn't a limit to the number of polys it can handle. These Firebirds are around 1500 polys IIRC. Since you got me curious, I opened a model with 6000 polys and it had no problem. Very cool, what kinds of models?

I love your Firebirds! Especially the KITT kits. I'd love to see a Knight Rider Peterbilt Semi truck for them in the same scale. Is there a chance that you might do it, too?
