As previously mentioned, some of the template parts didn't match up. I messaged nosports and he suggested that i add extra lengths to make all the shorter parts match the longer one... I decided to go against that idea and see how it all worked out later on. Turns out I should have taken his advice after all I ended up having to add some extra bits to increase the overall length of the main substructure as seen below.

In the templates pdf there is a sheet with measurements for the corrugated board parts you need to build the substructure, the longest of these is 537mm and this is the one I left intact. I had to add extra length (17mm) to the 520mm side parts, and the 121mm front side parts ( this should make snse to you if you look at the template sheet, if not, let me know).

This has however made the structure a bit too long but only by about 2-3mm and I think that has more to do with the thickness of my cardboard. I also had to make some adjustments to the opening where the swivel pin is located but that was easy to work out by using the top skins and the circle marked on them.

Once I had fixed up that problem, the skinning part went really well, I was left with a few gaps here and there thanks to the extra length mentioned in my last post but it's nothing that can't be easily fixed and patched up before painting later on.

Next I built the engine compartment parts adding some extra detail to the vents using some strips of card, there's also some access doors drawn on here which I'll add some 3D detail to before painting.

I've also started on the drivers cabin but haven't had a lot of luck finding reference shots of an interior yet so I'll most likely just scratch-build a basic one like I did for the truck.

I'm almost ready to start painting soon, once I've added a bit more to the body.

hehe.....

Just as i told you - you better believe me

As mentioned, even with the gap i think it wouldn't affect the build.

But i as i remember there were much pictures out there of the cabin.
You could always take pictures of ohter cranes of this type, because the cabine would be all the same i think. Especially the 'Drivers'-Cabine, which i would presume is dedicated all to the same task of driving around - so there would be not much use of different cabs.....

yeah that's what I figured too, I've also noticed that they don't convert them to right hand drive over here either so I won't bother with that like I did for the truck...

I'm not going to go into huge detail like I did with the truck because you really can't see much of what I did from the outside, just enough to suggest there's something in there.

Here's what I've come up with so far for the interior... it was a bit of a rush job, I've just thrown together a few bits of scrap cardboard and will add a bit more detail after it's painted. Once I get this and the cab painted I can add the windows and move on to the rest of the body.

Liebherr LTM1300 6.1 (nosports crane)-img_20120729_150340.jpgLiebherr LTM1300 6.1 (nosports crane)-img_20120729_150405.jpgLiebherr LTM1300 6.1 (nosports crane)-img_20120729_150518.jpgLiebherr LTM1300 6.1 (nosports crane)-img_20120729_150550.jpg

Not much more to go on the main body of the crane (truck half) now, then I can get it painted and move on to the actual crane itself but there's 12 large wheels to make before I get to that bit. After the 28 small wheels I just made for a trailer in the Operation Mammoet build, the idea of doing 12 big wheels doesn't scare me at all.

progress has slowed a bit but I'm still plodding along with it... drivers cabin is mostly finished and painted. It's not as highly detailed as I would have liked it but after going into a lot more detail on my other truck I noticed not much of it could be seen from the outside and hardly anyone notices it anyway so I didn't go overboard this time. I probably should have covered the sides of the corrugated card I used for the seats too Oh, not sure if you can see them or not but I added cup-holders

Liebherr LTM1300 6.1 (nosports crane)-img_20120810_140137.jpgLiebherr LTM1300 6.1 (nosports crane)-img_20120810_140148.jpgLiebherr LTM1300 6.1 (nosports crane)-img_20120810_140207.jpg

Next up I have to paint the main body then assemble and paint the wheelarches. Painting is turning out to be a bit of an issue in the cold wet weather we're having because i have to do it outside. I'm going to be using primer this time too, to see if it makes a difference... painting straight onto the card seems to take longer in the cold as it doesn't dry fast enough and seems to use too many coats to get the job done.
