Any color as long as it's black?
(and leaving parts that aren't perfect could make newbies like me and many others think "I could do better" - and hopefully even try to do better)
It's looking quite fine, thank you for the pictures

Reminds me of another favourite saying of mine... "Got any blacker?"

Speaking of leaving parts that aren't perfect, that's something I'm pretty good at... it also helps to remind people it's made of paper although from a distance it's hard to spot.

I don't have any new progress pics yet but here's a few new reference shots I found to give an idea of how I want it to look when it's done...

Excelent photos - looks like it has five steering axles and only one fixed axle?

Progress has been slow... due to nicer weather making things a bit busier at work lately, not to mention having to find the motivation for the next step.... 12 tyres with treads.

The tyres themselves took a couple of weeks, due to the lack of time I've got to spend on it and after spending a few hours cutting out the treads it's going to take a week or two to get them all stuck on... there's about 200 of them on each tyre

2 down, 10 to go

Unhappy

THATS

DEFINITIVE

CRAZY

Are you sure that you are not a mental case ?

Looks like you waste more parts an one tire as the model itself.

But i have the one hint. just fill in the tires whilst building the model, so it will stretch over a long time. I could not envisage me to glue all the 12 tires at once.

yeah it's a brain drain for sure but I'm getting there... I got a day off work on saturday so I've made some good progress the last couple of days and have 2 tyres to go then I can paint them and move on to the hubs... I like the idea of doing a couple at a time but I decided to get them all out of the way in one go so it's behind me and I can move on to the "easier" stuff

I use spray paint, in cans for the larger stuff, then later for the smaller details I'll use enamel model paints although sometimes I just stick with the spray cans. I stockpile the parts until there's enough of them to paint them in groups depending on the colours.

The bulk of this model will be black and red. I use a gloss for the crane body and a matt black for the tyres. For the moving parts like the telescopic legs and later the crane boom, I'll probably use a black marker or a dye to soak into the cardstock so as not to thicken the parts or they won't be able to slide in and out of each other.
