Hmmm. IIRC, one of my plastic model cronies worked for Motor Trend in the mid-'70's. I think I might drop him a note about this, as well. He did art and advertising, so he might know something about these...

Paul,

Any help would be appreciated, as I haven't heard anything back from MT yet

Hey Rick,
chances are MT does not own the copyrights to those models, most likely the original artist owns the rights and MT paid for one-time publishing rights.

Which means if you could find the original artist you could probably get permission to re-relase them, without having to deal with MotorTrend.

Who is the artist? At that time Motor Trend was part of Petersen Publishing and they had several artists that were on a staff contract. When they went outside that they usually did it on a one-off contract basis and bought full rights to the artwork. Knew several people that were employees or had been and the place seemed to be a pretty cutthroat hierarchy.
