Here's a link to some more photos of it: Steve Fossett Land Speed Record Car for The National (122910) - Images | Calvert Photography
Any LSR car would be welcome. The only readily available one in 25/24 scale off the top of my head is the old Revell Mickey Thompson Challenger (which is being reissued). There have been some really high dollar and rare resin ones done. Then there is a fair selection in 1/43. But those are also hard to come by and can be real expensive also. |

in a previous life, that was Craig Breedlove's Spirit of America LSR car
I will put in my vote for all Spirit of America LSR cars and the North American Eagle LSR www.landspeed.com Rick

i know this is an upsetting comment, i mean no disrespect for those who dare......
but this looks less like a ''car'' and more like a rocket tricycle....what is the next level down, landspeed record, with 4 wheels and steerable as far as going thru a turning, up and down, curvey track? all i got when i looked was nascar. i guess i dont know what to ask the search bar? |

so basically, is like a really fast nascar style, then jump to jet rocket.
thats very interesting that it does that, no middle ground. there must be something there in the missing part between nascar style and jetrocket car, that would be, fantastic. |

There's always Buckaroo Banzai's Jet Car (even though its really a converted pickup truck).

The last wheel driven unlimited record that I can remember is the Summers Bros. Golden Rod streamliner and that was back in the mid 60's at around 410mph. After that all the publicity and money went to breaking the absolute record with jet and rocket cars. There is a 25th resin of the Golden Rod but its not real detailed or accurate.
For Speed Weeks at Bonneville now its primarily class racing with lots of stock based and hot rod stuff in the 200-300mph (which to me is still pretty pucker inducing) range. Here's one I photoed at a show recently that runs in streamliner class with a 1927 Model T Ford based engine. |

Got me curious since I knew the record had been upped at least a couple of times since the Summers Bros. but wasn't sure what it was now. Here's a link to the current record holder has some video also of a 426mph run. The Official Speed Demon Land Speed Site | Home
