Pie Wagon show car
Here we have Airdave's paper model of the Pie Wagon show car, designed by Tom Daniels. It was a fun build, with just a couple of challenging parts: the stepped carbs and scoops were a bit fiddly in the small scale, and the doubled paper scrollwork lantern bracket takes patience and a sharp blade. One thing I noticed right off the bat with Dave's kit is the absence of headers, so I made up a set using a jpeg of the built up plastic model for reference. Missing also are a couple of bronze cylindrical lamps that were mounted by the cowl/windshield frame. I may roll them from one of the bronze backer pieces from Dave's kit before I mount the finished Pie Wagon to its base. Nothing shows off a hot rod like a hot model, so the final picture includes the cut out that will stand tall and proud next to the Pie Wagon when all is said and done. The photos are disappointing this time. Hopefully the final shot or two will be better.

Excellent work Don! Just goes to show, I did not even notice
the missing pipes when I did the 1/144 version. Nice touch!

Beautiful!
I have added these pics to my collection. I wonder why I never added exhaust? Must have been something I just forgot about. Send me your artwork and I will add it to the model. Some things...like very small lamp details...I do leave off intentionally. Mainly because of the scale. But missing the exhaust makes no sense to me.

Thanks for the comments, gents. Since I started the thread I've added the cylindrical lamps, and have started on the base. Dave, I wish the photos were better. I use a very outdated camcorder with low pixel density, so my pics are usually pretty bad. Your model looks much better in person (so does the girl). I'll PM you regarding the exhausts. Feel free to improve them as you see fit.

Kool, Dave. Glad I could help. The second set of lights are in place. They were made from a Q-tip shaft wrapped with a bit of brass pattern from Dave's model. The lenses are hand painted and coated with clear gloss. I decided on a black and white checker board pattern for the base. Don't know why, but that motif seems to be especially "hot roddy" to me. And of course, the gorgeous model must be included as well.I experimented with a black background this time, and these photos are better than the first set. Now that I'm retired, I have no excuse - I must learn how to operate my Canon.

Did you use the canon on these pics? They are kind of grainy, so I wonder what your ISO is set at. And, if you would like, you can contact me about how to build a cheap photo booth. I think I did mine for less than $20 or so. I really like the additions you made. And it does look nice on the checkerboard base.

Thanks Ray, I'll definitely pick your brain when I'm trying to learn the new camera. And no, these pics were taken with the old camcorder, hence the graininess. My daughter used to take absolutely beautiful macro photographs with the Canon, so I know it's capable of taking a really high quality image. The question is, am I? The owners manual is about the size of the one in my car, but with a much smaller typeface LOL. The problem is, I'd rather spend my time building than reading a manual, but I'm just going to have to show some intestinal fortitude and crack that puppy open.
