Mercedes 540k Streamliner

Hi All,
I think I'm ready for another scratch build. I just purchased my Octane magazine, and fell in love with the Mercedes, 540k Streamliner, again inspired, I feel another build coming on. I think I'm going to start with the Canon Mercedes500 k model download build it, cut things off it, and then add modified panels to it, and presto a stream liner. I'm going to try and make this model of a higher quality than my previous build so it may take a little longer to complete. Stay tuned and lets see what happens

I have finally started the ball rolling, I have built the basic body shape using a ready downloadable kit of a Canon Mercedes 500K. I cut off some of the unnecessary stuff like the grille, and now time to convert this beast to the streamliner.

Should make for an interesting semi-scratch build. Looking forward to see how you go about this. Always ready to learn something new.

The build is coming on in an unconventional way just adding sections as required. Once body is finished I will shave away the creases and smooth out with glue and paper shavings

Cut and pasting the panels has been done, now its time for the paper mache, I will be using a mixture of 2:1 ratio of water to flour. I found this mixture was a little too thick still so I added more water. Cut up some old newspaper, and lets let the fun begin. I feel like a kid again This is soooo messy, that my kids even started to pay attention at what I'm doing. Any way lets let this dry properly, and continue tomorrow night.

Primer stage

I Premiered the paper mache with a 2K automotive primer, I have a couple blisters come up, but I'm not concerned at this stage as I popped them with a pin. The overall shape of the model looks very nice, this process of building is experimental to me, but I think I'm going to take on a kit build next. This build is full of trial and error. As you can see slight differences between the original and my build, but hopefully you get the general idea lol.DSC09124.jpgDSC09125.jpg

Lick of silver paint and clear coat

I cave cut out the areas before I painted them, so that I would not damage paint once painted. I have painted the body with a generic silver spray pack and put clear over it. hey presto its drying in our Adelaide warm sun. I have also cut in the details. sorry they are a little uneven.

Ambitious project. Like the car myself and did a little figuring on what it would take to build on the JoHan or Monogram 540K (sorry know that's plastic). Decided already have too many projects that I need to finish. Be looking forward to your finish.
