Thanks, my friends. I consider it an honor to hear your positive comments.
I had some time over the weekend to continue the build. Once the tire walls were glued into place, spacers were placed in the well of the wheel to provide support and for accurate spacing to allow the tread to be placed. The tread is formed from two long strips of paper which are glued together and then attached to the wheel and wrapped around. The ends are then glued together to finish the wheel. I then repeated the whole process with a smaller axle to finish the front wheel. Phil |

Thanks all! I really value the feedback. It's been busy at work and at home. Did not get much done. The next step is a box-like structure that mounts on the left side of the frame. Not sure what it's supposed to represent.
When I was in college I had a Yamaha RX-100 that, if memory serves me right, had the fuel intake valve and the carburetor at that location. I'm not sure if the Harley is built along the same lines but that's what I'm going to call it. I'm open to suggestions. Next comes the bike's chain and sprocket which is attached to the carburetor in the front and the chain guard at the back. Once the chain has dried in place, its a simple matter of attaching both wheels to their respective struts using wooden dowels as axles. And, finally the bike looks like a bike! The wheels are wide enough that the vehicle can stand up on its own without support. Phil |

Thanks, Elliott!
Yesterday, I started work on the engine. The Softail Classic appears to be a V-quad engine. First is the crankcase: The engine itself is built up in halves. First is the left half, which has two cylinder heads. The heads are identical and after construction are glued into position: Hera's a picture of the bike at its current stage of development. Laying it on its side gives it a curiously flat 2-D appearance. Phil |
