Hi lukke,
I meant the model has been designed by a german designer. The real thing was done by Flaminio Bertoni, an ingenious italian sculptor and designer who some 15 years later designed the eternally beautifully DS.
Changing the clutch: Well, it looks a lot easier with the 2CV than with the Visa, thanks to the easily removeable side walls of the engine compartment.
Still, I love my Visa: Almost 30 years ago, my 1st car was one and when I spotted one for sale at a ridiculously low price some years ago, I just had to go for it: Still got the repair manuals from my time at university.

Cheers, Martin

Hello Sparrowhawk,

Well, the paper Charleston was constructed by Oktavian Carabela.
I suppose designed by him.
I just include some pictures of the templates (not copies).
The Visa was a nice car to, my mother owned a Visa II with flat twin and my sister had the 1100. I drove both on occasion. Very comfortable!

Please don't ask for copies since it was a commercial kit, I've seen Annette's Scholz ente 1/43 on the web once, it was similar like the Charleston but blue.

Greetings
Lukke

Hi Lukke,
got this kit too, and of course I meant the publisher of it, the Annette Scholz Verlag. Not the designer.

If anybody wants to get himself a "Charlie", as the 2CV Charleston was affectionally named by it´s friends without trouble with the copyright: You can find 3 of them (red/black, yellow/black, light grey/dark grey on paperxm There are more Citroens on this site. Parts fit is excellent (except the XM, which gave me some trouble), graphics are crisp. No building instructions with these, so they need some thought and knowledge of the real thing. If anybody in Europe is into the BX saloon of the 1980-ies, there also is a very neat model of the coupé version of this car which sadly never made it beyond prototype stage.
Another 2Cv from a japanese designer is to be found here: 1/30Model of ?????? 1/30model Those kits are originally in 1/30 but they can easily be scaled up to 1/24 without looking simplistic, as they are very well designed.
Also, there is a nice vintage 2CV from Agence Eureka: https://www.flickr.com/photos/taffet...7622336993969/ This one has lots of charme and they gave it a working suspension!

As commercial kits, there have been big models of the 2CV in 1/8 both as a normal car (2CV AZ) and a delivery van (2CV AZU), early series with the corrugated bonnets. When attending the Citroen driver´s world meeting in Interlaken /Switzerland 10 years ago, I secured me one each and a kind of prototype kit of the Citroen Mehari buggy. IIRC, these models had working supension and steering. Sadly, the designer is said to have passed away since then. Maybe you can still get the kits on ebay.
There has been a cardboard kit of the Visa too: A large model in 1:16, which was issued when this car was introduced in Germany back in 1976. Design is fairly simple, but the style clearly shows this to be a design by Hubert Siegmund, one of the most ingenious cardboard designers ever. This one is very sought for by fans, I built one scaled down to 1:24. Lovely!

Cheers, Martin

Hello Martin,

The Ingénia I have already and it is almost finished. These 1/8 2cvAZ and AZU intrigue my for years now, haven't found them yet, they are from KIT CARTO, right? There is a woman, Suzan Kirby, showing her well made AZ on U-tube. The 3 little Charlestons you mentioned are also on my hard disk, lovely chassis they have, never build though. But to be frank, al these existing paper models are not of such important matter to me except for parts sometimes, since I usually design my own models. Examples are my "stretched W126, Ford Escort RS2000, T2 VW microbus... .Of course I did build a few models of other designers like for instance this Charleston or more recently that small 190SL. Nowadays am working on a Cadillac Eldorado '67 (1/24) witch I also designed myself. Soon I'll start a new threat on Papermodellerssite with this Cadillac, including interior, in a prominent role.
Are your AZ or AZU displayed on Papermodellerssite? Am always curious how other modellers finish their models.
Do you have this Lomax already? White, red, green are possible, big files though, could not include them in this mail. If you're interested, just let me know. I am a hoarder, collected hundreds of papermodels.
Greetings,
Lukke

Hi Lukke,
I am still striving towards designing my own models, admiring those who already do it.
My home forum in Germany is kartonist.de . If you want to know and see more of my works there, search for "Citroen BX", I am the only one who has built them yet on the forum. You can find your way from then onwards, following my alias.
The big kits are from Carto Kit, that´s right and I have not yet started them: Got a problem where to display them once they are finished. Also I know they are really rare so I am shy of cutting into them.
And yes, I am a hoarder, got more than 100 unbuilt kits stored away. Some are still from my father, who sadly passed away in 1998. He was a cardboard modelers thru and thru, even more than I am.
I want to tackle the Citroen ZX available from the site with the Citroen XM I mentioned before, but manipulate the kit to represent the 3-door variant which IMHO looks a lot better than the 5-door. Citroen managed to give it a pleasingly light coupe appearance by changing the window contours whilst still managing to keep all other parts unchanged.

BTW: Do you know there is a very well made Citroen HY available from Schreiber? Built the previous version (there had been a thorough rework some years ago) and it was a delight.

Cheers, Martin

Hello Martin,

I browsed through most of the model you made. Hello? They are really well made! Chapeau (I take my head of), on dit chez nous but am Dutch languaged of course. Thing is your choice of models is very close to models I like to make. Most of your models I have on my computer. Yes, the Visa with the pork nose is graphically not so great as one of your correspondents stated, but the shape is right to my remembrance. For me it would be a challenge to form the interior with its characteristic satellite equipped dashboard. When the real car was launched this item was a real revelation. Oh, by the way, thanks for all the feedback you gave to me, you're about the only one with only a few exceptions like the moderator of this blog and one other guy who made comments on my stuff. One more thing: years ago I bought some special paper with the HY and AZU in mind, it has already the needed shape to do a real good relief shape of the roof and side panels for these cars, maybe one day I will use this paper... .
Cheers, Luc

Hi Luc,

I hope you take your hat off, not your head! :D
This corrugated paper looks intriguing, especially for the HY. I know of a similar brand for sale in a local handicraft shop. You really got my imagination going.
I got a Citroen Visa standing outside my house right now, and yes, it still has got this quirky dashboard. BTW, this was no complete novelty: Look at the Citroen GSA. You may have needed some learning first, but it definitely had the big advantage you could also work it in thick gloves. You needed them because this little air-cooled boxer took ages to warm up thoroughly and then to do some decent heating.
I will have my summer vacation in a few days and I plan to devote a considerable part of them on getting my Visa back on the road again.

Cheers, Martin

Hello Martin,
Yes the hat not the head, I was never taught in English so... .
Glad you like this how you call it, corrugated paper. The only problem are the colors. With a brilliant white version you're free to color it, that's why I prefer non colored templates, they give you more freedom.
But correct me if am wrong, wasn't the CX not the first with this crazy type of dash? I've been browsing trough pictures of the GS (launched in 1970) dashboard, don't see the satellites. Anyway, let's not discus about details and come to the obvious conclusion that these Citroëns were great cars. And yes I know that the air-cooled Visa was hardly accusable of being a sauna when the stove was on, ha ha, the same with the 2cv. Thanks again for your feedback
PS: you can find more of my work on lukke49.deviantart.com
Cheers, Luc
