Steam Roller

To be a little more precise - It's an 1865 Aveling & Porter Road Roller.

Some of you may have noticed that steam power has become a bit of a theme of mine over the last few months.

This is the latest - and most complicated kit I've made for quite a while - the cog picture may give you an idea! The kit comes from Modelik and has line drawings and half a page of words in Polish. There are eight photos that help a little, although on closer inspection, I think the pictures are of a plastic kit - quite a novel idea!

I have also realised that there are no tabs on any parts nor are there any reference numbers on parts showing where other parts fit - although there are a few clues on the drawings. So far almost every part has been glued to card of varying thicknesses. Als the printing of the gloss areas crack very easily.

That's the bad side, the good side is that as I progress, I have become aware of the quirks and this makes building easier, the parts fit is also very good so, generally, I'm enjoying the procees.

One think I haven't mentioned is the scale -- I'll leave that for a while - you may be surprised!

More to follow --- slowly.

Cheers
Mike

That's looking exceptionally good Mike. The valve gear looks almost like it will be operational, but methinks that cog in the last picture just might benefit from a little superglue to harden it up first.

Very nice Mike. Looking great!

I just posted some pics pf an Aveling Porter here that may interest you. I have a couple more more (poor) pics of some additional detail (but not many) if you are interested.

Thanks for your comments....

The cog on my finger is part of the steering gear and, like the rest doesn't work.

Thanks for the pictures, it's a shame about the condition,. perhaps I should "weather" mine. I like the closeups, they give a good idea of the detail on my model.

Cheers
Mike

Fantastic looking model. Such detail. I'm guessing your not going to FIRE it up. Might be a problem.
Can't wait to see more of the progress. Thanks for sharing.

Steam Roller

Hi! Mike,
I have also bought this kit, as my interest is in steam vehicles and having looked at the instructions, it does seem a little challenging. However
the kit may need some artistic licence, and modification, but on that matter I have yet to decide.
