Renault R8 Gordini by Ichiyama, 1/24
Alrighty...
After the Fiat 500, here is my next car by Ichiyama. Again, this has been enlarged from 1/30 to 1/24 and again. It still looks terrific, thanks to the very careful sculpting by the designer. I guess this car is mostly unknown in the US, so please refer to the well done Wikipedia article. As with several more of his models, Ichiyama offers this car in a basic guise and several souped up rallye versions. I have built the basic version first, planning to do another one as an out-and-out rallye car. Actually, there is not too much to say about the build, because the pictures on Ichiyama´s homepage and the excellent parts fit just guide you smoothly thru the building process. Have your water colours or coloured pencils ready, because, in order to simulate the reinforcing seams in the real car, Ichiyama uses lots of "open" cut edges which would make for ugly white flashes on this uniformly blue model. I guess the best way to go about this build is to show you pictures of the building process. If you got questions, please ask ahead! Cheers, Martin

And more pictures... Last 2 pictures show the "backbone" of the model, made up of 3 boxes

And the last ones. Somehow this car has got an impish charme. An acquaintance of mine used to drive one of them in the 1970-ies and according to him, this model has caught the character of the car really well.
Next will be the rallye version. This model should make for an excellent conversation piece in the U.S. if somebody boasts to know all about historic cars. Cheers, Martin

Beautifully done Martin. And it's a car I knew nothing of. Thank you for the link to the Wikipedia article. It was particularly interesting after seeing the pictures of your model.

I have now downloaded several of Ichiyama's 1/30 automobile models and instructions (very clear, as you said) and hope eventually to build them (after I finish the Citroen C4 pickup truck I began so many months ago).
