Thanks, Rich and David, for the nice comments.
This weekend I was able to finish up much of the suspension. The remaining components were finally assembled, given a coat of primer and fit to the frame. As you can see from the photo, parts (17b,c & 18b,c) that are supplied to make up the rear spring mounting brackets would not work too well. The last thing I have to do is mount the rear axle to the springs. Next up Wheels and Tires. |

Front wheel update
The front wheels are almost ready, just need to add the tires to finish them off. So far these parts fit together well, noting negative to report. The assembly drawing is well done and easy to follow. I believe all the parts that need laminating were were correctly marked with a single star which, according to the legend, indicates they are to be laminated to 0.5mm card. After mounting the parts they were cut out of the heavy card stock with retaliative ease by using an up and down poking motion with the blade. After cutting out the wheels, they were reinforced with super glue then filed and sanded to round over the edges. Next, to finish them up, I'll complete the tires. Then onto the rear wheels.

Really superb work, as always, Kevin. Those wheels are exceptionally realistic. I can hear them clanging and grinding on the cobblestones.

Kevin, question for you. "parts that need laminating were correctly marked with a single star which, according to the legend, indicates they are to be laminated to 0.5mm card" I've been interpreting that to mean the total thickness of the part after lamination is 0.5mm. Doing it as you are would make the parts about 0.65mm which would really make a difference in build up assemblies. Maybe that's why I have problems sometimes with sub-assemblies not fitting right to the major assembly.

Thanks for the kind words Don. I look forward to seeing you in a few weeks at Army Heritage Days. I'll have this model with me for you to look at up close and in person.
Wayne, you raise a good question, but to be honest, I really have no idea what's right. I was always under the impression that the different symbols indicate the thickness of the material to be used for laminating rather than the total caliper of the finished part after being laminated. With that being the case, I suppose it could make a difference in some cases on the overall quality of the fit. When I first started building card models I was overly concerned with this but today not so much, Now I tend to use what ever heavier card stock that just "feels" right. Maybe someone else out there can shed more light on this subject. Now another quick update...Building the tires and mounting them to the rim. As you can see in the pictures below I cut out all the parts without any issues. The side walls fit over the rim rather well, just some minor fitting required but no big deal. When applying the pieces that wrap around the outside to form the tires "tread" the "good fit" quickly comes to an end. Turns out that these strips are about a half inch too short. Luckily I did not trim them to length when I cut them out so I was able to wrap them the whole way around without and gaps. That's all I have for now. |

Here is a quick update on the assembly of the rear wheels. Rims are done.
I have to say that for the most part constructions was trouble free. The parts fit very well with only minor trimming required. I did take it upon myself to make a few changes to the original design. These small changes made construction a lot easier and gave a much more realistic appearance. I just have to finish up the center hubs and tires. |

Exceptionally realistic rear wheels. Can't wait to see this one next month at Army Heritage Days.
