Thanks for following along Jon. I really appreciate your kind words.
Don, Things are beginning to take shape, at least now she'll be sitting on all 4's for AHD in May. Today I was able to finish up the wheels. Pretty straight forward construction just like the front tires just more of them. Part fit was ok, the side walls fit over the rim without any issues however the paper bands that wrap around them to form the tread surface were again too short. I learned a while ago not to trim them to length until gluing them in place. To finish up the wheels the hubs were added without any issues. That's it for now. Next up I will build the transmission. In interesting thing about the Mack Bulldog is that the transmission is not connected directly to the engine, It's located towards the back of the truck by the chain drive. More on that later. Enjoy! |

Nicely done wheels! I would think it easy for all designers to get the right strip length for treads and rims using pi X diameter but this still seems to escape some for some reason. My stug road wheels have the same problem...

I've been making some progress by completing the transmission/differential sub-assembly. These parts fit together ok but again were far from perfect. In this case the fit is not really too important since the model is going to be painted anyway.
As for the painting, I sprayed a base coat of Vallejo flat red onto the frame and gave the wheels and tires a dark brown wash and a liberal dusting with some grey pastel chalk. Next up I'll complete the rolling chassis by attaching the wheels, steering, transmission and break linkages. Then onto the motor. |

Bravo on what I have been led to believe is a difficult model.

As much as I am a fan of trucks and construction equipment, I've never been too interested in the really old stuff but you definitely have my attention on this build, those wheels look fantastic.
I'm particularly interested in your paining techniques, having just purchased an airbrush setup to use on future builds. Looking forward to seeing more of this one as it develops. |
