Simple Dung Beetle

Any Street Outlaws fans in the community will immediately recognize this ride. The Dung Beetle, driven by Jeff Bonnett (aka AZN) is a 1966 VW bug sporting nearly 500 fuel injected turbocharged horses. With its ratty looks, it's the ultimate "sleeper" and regularly dispatches modern muscle cars like Hellcats, Corvettes, Mustangs, Challengers and Chargers 1/8 mile at a time. Exotics like Lamborghini's and McLaren's have also proven to be no match.

My Dung Beetle started out as a free one page model of "Herbie", the VW from The Love Bug. Other than the Photoshop texturing, the only other modifications I made to the kit was with the wheels and tires (wider, larger diameter slicks at the back and narrower street tires at the front), the addition of some bars to the bumpers, and an Oklahoma license plate. It's scaled to approx. 1/35.

The real Dung Beetle's hood is hinged at the bottom and is normally opened about 8 inches at the top to accommodate all the plumbing for the turbocharger and exhaust, but to replicate that would have required more time and effort than I was willing to put into this simple model.

There are several other free VW Beetle models out there that are more rounded and detailed than this one - maybe someday.

Thanks, Ray. I guess there's not many Street Outlaws fans here on the forum.

I don't know the program, but I didn't post because I could ramble on and on.

After doing the Herbie project, Herbie? | Cardboard Warriors forum , I had a little experience with several of the Beetle models out there. You did an outstanding job. Sometimes taking a less-than-perfect model, you can make a gem ... or a dung beetle.

truth be told, before I read the post, I was about to move the thread to the Zoo forum, I was thinking maybe Don had messed up.

The Herbie kit at Cardboard Warriors looks like it might be a bit more rounded than the one I built. Many thanks for the comment. LOL Rick. I wonder if there is a paper kit of an actual dung beetle. It would make for an interesting model, rolling a big ball of doodoo around backwards.

Okay, it has been a long day, but I had this picture in my head of your dung beetle sitting on its tail end, with the front end leaning against the ball.

The ball would be fairly easy, https://ninjatoes.blogspot.com/2018/...aft-globe.html

Yep, that's one. Have seen a few around the net. Not really interested in searching for them though...

A dung beetle walked into a bar and asked "Is this stool taken?"
