Mad Max War Rig 1:25

Hi All, I decided I kinda like this modeling thing and thought I'd give it another go. So my next build will be the War Rig from the movie Mad Max Fury Road. This is a 3 part build which includes Truck, Trailer, and a fuel pod.

I was originally interested in the Peterbilt 379 Semi Truck and Trailer that I found in Paper Replika. Unfortunately it was really small (1:72 I think) and I was looking for something just a wee bit bigger.

I had recently watched the Mad Max movie and some of the cars and trucks in it are pretty badass. Knowing that I was interested in a truck, and that I knew the movie, the War Rig was recommended. This seemed like a suitable alternative to what I was looking for as well as a good transition from the Death Race Mustang that I just completed.

I'm super excited to get this started and can't wait to see how it comes out. So.. here goes!

Hi There, you are off to a great start, very neat work area!

Check out my build of the tractor unit here.

Mad Max War Rig

I added all sorts of extras and reinforcements to it because of the size.

Have fun.

Hi Bernie,
Thanks so much for sharing your build, I've been trying to find a thread of someone that's completed this and you've done a stellar job with it! Love the extras you've put in.

I see that the second part of the rig wasn't out when you originally built yours, any plans (if you haven't done so already) to build it?

-Crystal

Hi Crystal,

Glad you liked it. It is quite a straightforward build. I had got as far as building the small fuel tank trailer with the second part. this didn't go as well as the tractor unit. I had problems lining up all the segments of the sphere, so it went in the bin. Will be revisiting the trailer part for next year's convention season.

All the best and happy modelling.

Bernie

Some small progress from this evening. So far it's coming together nicely.

Thanks and yeah I suppose I did dive in but you know what they say, go big or go home.. right? Lol I'm enjoying this one a lot more than the other already. Just going to take it slow, read everything carefully, do a better and cleaner dry fit on each part and I think I'll be good. All I can do is my best

Few more pics of progress. I was able to get most of the front of the Tractor completed. The cow catcher gave me a little trouble going together but turned out alright in the end. I had one small part on each side turned the wrong way which was throwing the whole thing off and making it wider than it needed to be. Once I corrected that error it fit perfect.

After the cow catcher was finally in place the sides went on pretty easy. Everything fit together well.

Next up is the cabin. I've found some good reference photos of the interior and think I'm going to try and add a dashboard and seats to fill the empty space. Looking forward to this part and interested to see what I come up with. So far I've tested out a few different bits of material for the seats and i'm not really happy with how they came out so going to keep trying different things until I find something that works.

Rough draft of my thoughts on the dash... trying to keep it simple yet close to the real thing.

You're doing a fine job there.
That's a clean and precise build.
Will follow this.
