Orlik Lotus Esprit

This is more a report than a thread. I debated posting this here, but changed my mind.

First a caveat: I tend to avoid automobile subjects in paper and much prefer the plastic medium for them. This preference relates to the build up of the body panels as I am never satisfied with the final result in paper.

I made an exception with this one.

Overall the build-up has very few problems. The powertrain fits great.
The inner structure fits very well also.

Interior fit is a little vague but works out.

Rear hatch fits great if a little fiddly.

Then there is the body. You have to think through the sequence of assembly a bit. That's not really a problem. What IS a problem (for me) are the really thin pieces of the body that have tabs that need quite a bit of bending. The front bumper to hood transition being the worst.

So, Here is my final take on this one overall: Considering the subject and the general build experience, I did enjoy building it but am not completely happy with the end product. But, that's me. I can't fault this one for the execution and, if you like the subject, like I do, I can recommend this one as it's challenges are minimal.

On a side note: the drivetrain can be removed from the body and the wheels can be left unglued to the brake rotors so you do have a few optional display options.

I kinda wish it was in white though with submarine parts....

Glad to know I wasn't the only one going "what submarine parts"?

Have looked at getting that kit. After the nice job you did with it will really think about it now. Has one of the better engines I've seen in paper.

Like you I like plastic for newer vehicles because of the chrome and compound curves. But since this one doesn't have many compound curves and limited chrome it works.
