McLaren Honda MP4/4, 1988 Japanese Grand Prix

If you hear the name Senna, this is probably the first car you'll think of.
Petr Spinler's website offers a handful of free models to build, and this is one of them. You can check them out here: Formula 1

I did a few tweaks on the template, and I tried changing the red colour to resemble the fluorescent red scheme they used on most of McLaren's cars in the day. But unfortunately, the camera seems to darken the colour a lot.

The build didn't really go the way I wanted it to, the card's surface has more pores than I'm used to, and didn't allow me the time to make corrections with the gluing.

I also did some experimenting on the front suspension. I unwound a low E guitar string to obtain the core and used it as a tie rod (is this what you call it?). However, I think I'll need to replace it, because the mechanism isn't very stable.

So anyway, here are the build photos. I'm planning to build a period correct helmet sometime as well!!

That car brings me many memories of my idol. What Ayrton did was fantastic. The tragic weekend in Imola was a very sad day, I remember my mother trying to comfort me because I knew my fanaticism for him. For me the greatest together with Fangio.Excellent work in that historic MacLaren !!
