Ours was white with a red interior. It had a three-speed stick, and as it had bench seats, the shift lever curled around the front edge of the seat.
I think I remember the baby blue color on other people's Valiants, but I don't remember the turquoise. Are there not records of colors available for each model year? |

Enjoying this thread!
I have a burgundy colored 1962 Dodge Lancer; an A Body Mopar very similar to this model. Mine's a two door that I am currently restoring; working on dying the carpet soon. Thanks! Cant wait to see more!

I love the retro look of your unique creations. I do have a construction question, Mark: it appears that you leave the underside of the pontoons open. do you close them up at the very end of construction, or leave 'em open? Reviewing google images of the '60 Valiant, red seems to be the predominant color. There's a strangely patterned red and white two tone, but that may be a custom paint job.

To Yale and THE DC: Yes, I looked up the color chart for the '60 Valiant on the web. Various shades of blue, gray, turquoise, and bright and dark red, as well as white and black.
DC: You are welcome to post pics of your Lancer on this thread. To rockpaperscissor: Glad you asked. I leave them open, so as I glue the adjoining panel in place, I can reach up into the structure with a pencil or popsicle stick to keep the strip aligned. When I glue the pontoons to the center section, a can reach into the structures with tweezers, to squeeze them together until the glue sets. I usually leave the bottoms permanently open. |

This site also shows many photos of '60 Valiants. Hope I didn't violate any copyrights by copying and pasting this info. |

The whole process of photographing, digitizing, and transmission must be muting these colors -- the Valiants in my memory were much brighter, especially the red and yellow ones. The other surprise from this image is that there are so many shades of blue -- I would have thought that the factory would have produced the cars in just a dark blue and a light blue.

Color chart.
I'll see how many more people weigh in on the color tonight, and make a decision tomorrow. I think I'll take it easy tonight. I spent a pile of money on a wheel alignment today, then, on the way home, had a close call that could have wiped out my car if there had been a collision. I gotta settle my nerves.
Talk you later, my friends. Stay safe. |
