MoAZ 546P Tractor with scraper bed

This is a 1/25 scale models published by Orel in A3 size. It is the first in a current series of 2 earthmoving models published.

History on the prototype can be found here: https://trucksplanet.com/catalog/model.php?id=2208

Part 1 and 2 are the tractor frame rails. The two side of part 1 nest together nicely.

Assembly is not numerical like the general Polish publisher approach. There is some skipping around. Also, part orientation is not intuitive, meaning the drawings have to be studied carefully. So far the drawings have been informative enough to not be any issue.

Parts fit has been excellent, so far. I am pleasantly surprised.

Anyway, here is some progress on the tractor frame assembly.

Fit continues to be very good. The written instructions are generally ok, but a few part numbers are not referenced within, giving the builder a little bit of a pause to decide when to include them. Case in point being the axle spring hangers (28) which are not mentioned specifically. Also the spring assembly bands are too long as provided. This made me wonder if the spring leafs were too thin and needed to be laminated, although there are no call outs to do so. The axle will sit on the top of the springs so leaf thickness will not be an issue going forward.

While the subassemblies of the springs, hangers and axle all fit together well, trying to integrate them all together on the frame was less successful. Fit was quite fiddly.

The shock/spring assemblies were not completely intuitive and the left assembly was hard to place with all the other frame parts near where it went.

Then there was the battery box assembly. while fit was good overall, I had to modify the battery box lid hinges as the design provided just does not work for me. I made the strips longer and doubled them over for a more "robust" result. I was worried I would have to glue the lid on permanently and loose access to the battery detail. Thankfully I dodged that bullet.

The fuel tank built up nicely, even the wire step parts I had to fashion.

The cab hinges (part 20) fit fine.

The front cab fairing finally adds some yellow. This is also a hinged part where I had to deviate from the diagrams to built better hinges.

Part 30 are the two air tanks. tank buildup was good. Fishing the front tank into position was not good. sequence for this tank should be earlier on in my opinion. The rear tank installed much easier.

The grader designed by the same person, also published by Orel, is much more complicated.
