Good job and nice model Mike !
I am building it for some weeks and hope showing it in a little diorama with the included paper made figurines. Yes, the textures are clean and realistic, the dimensions too. Most of the details are right exepted some parts to be improved. However the designer did a good kit. Cugnot built only 2 versions. The second version, the true one, is still in the museum "des arts et metiers" in Paris. Its colors are darker than the model but how where them 250 years ago ?

Paskal,
Thanks for the comments. Good luck with the build. One quick reminder - make sure you get the boiler door in the right place ! I'll be interested to see the finished figures. I didn't think they looked right with the engine. Cheers Mke |

The Cugnot's project was to subsitute the 6 horses and the men by a machine in order to tract a cannon. The figures look right because their uniforms are compliant of the 18th century French Royal Artillery. I think the designer used many informations from the web because we can find on youtube a movie showing a copy of the that Fardier with a soldier wearing the same uniform. Then some photos can be easily found showing the same thing. (please se below). I am used to built paper figurines even at this scale. Not so easy... Regarding the Bourbon barril, it's a joke... it was filled with water, useful for the machine or with gun powder.

I'd seen drawings of this and always assumed it was intended to tow a gun on its carriage - slinging the gun underneath means the extreme forward position of the boiler now makes a lot more sense. On the other hand, you can see how much steam the driver had to cope with, perhaps not suprised it crashed if he couldn't see?
