Rear outrigger box built and installed. I had to perform some surgery on the frame to get the box installed. There was 1 mm lamination that interfered with the correct fit up.

Also got some attachment points installed for axle/suspension components.

Last picture is me reliving one of my past duties when I worked for a crane manufacturer: finding the center of gravity (CG) of weldments....

Achieving precision in the fabrication of booms and extensions is a challenge. In this case, you have achieved it!

Great surgery Greg. Looks like you did a nice job on the outrigger box installation. You nail the C of G too.

Axles -

Assembly of these went OK, however parts fit was not as perfect as the frame was. The wrap around piece for the large part of the differential was too short so I had to add some material. I also had to fill a few gaps and get out the flat black paint to hide all the boo boos.

Axles part 2.

Steer cylinders, tie rods, installation onto frame.

All kinds of fiddly bits.

Tie rod has a styrene core (pattern provided). Steer cylinders have styrene rods. All larger connecting pins are styrene while the Steer cylinder pins are wire.

Drive shafts and struts:

Bunches of rolled barrels and plastic rods. And pins.

In theory, everything will articulate as intended. Guess we will find out once it's on its wheels.

Wheel hubs and tires. All bolt heads are sliced plastic hex rod.

Tire pictures are step by step. These go together fine but they are not my favorite design, they still look kinda toy like.

Oh well.

Transmission, engine, hydraulic pump, and radiator.

This post rounds out the drivetrain.

As far as sub assemblies, there were no issues with building.

As far as installing these components, there are some issues.

The front transmission mount doesn't work as provided. The frame mounting pillars are not high enough. I had to install about 2 mm worth of spacers.

There are no locating marks on the frame for the engine, radiator or hydraulic pump. I had to make educated guesses as to location. The radiator shroud doesn't give proper clearance to the fan and belts. I think that the fan belt pulleys should have thinner flanges. This would improve clearance issues.

I'm not going back in to fix this and think I got everything crammed in to allow proper cab fitment (the next assembly to tackle).

Carrier Cab.

Been busy building up the basic cab structure and filling the inside.

Some minor issues:

No location markings for steering wheel or foot pedals.
No location for underside steering box.
Right door armrest interferes with seat.
Steering wheel is HUGE.

In regards to the steering wheel, the rim was replace with wire to give a better look. It's easier for me to do this than to try and sand the rim contour.

Thus concludes the Carrier Cab interior.
