My UFO was of earthly origin.

About 11 years ago we were working on automating the water supply system and waste water facilities at Edwards AFB. I made a lot of visits to the base and saw some wonderful things (non classified)
On one visit we were off in the boonies several miles away from the base looking at a water well site. We heard a 4 sonic booms and looked up. We stood for a couple of minutes and watched two pairs of aircraft doing head on approaches. They were very fast covering about 120 degree arc in the sky in around of 8 to 12 seconds. How fast, my guess was something in the range of mach 2 at 30,000 feet. all you could see was the glints off of the aircraft no con trails,

On the 3rd or 4th pass. we noticed a con trail going north east to south west. The con trail was way up there in comparison to the other aircraft I would say 60,000 feet and it was an extremely fast mover crossing a 120 degree arc in 8 seconds or less. The con trail had puffs in it as if the aircraft was blowing smoke rings. At that point I turned to the escort and said I read that you guys were working on a slam jet engine. the Colonel turned to me and said we aren't.

I would like to think that it was an Aurora.

I doubt an Olds Aurora can go that fast Jim.
The ones I have been stuck behind can barely get up to highway speed.

...
I was once heading towards Toronto on a lonely stretch of country highway,
when I noticed this elongated object just above and ahead of my car.
It was extremely hard to judge its altitude, but it was able to maintain almost
exactly the same distance just ahead of my car.
It tracked me for the longest time.
I really got the impression that it was staying with me and I have to admit I got a little scared.
We have highway aerial surveillance from Traffic cops in that area, so that was my first worry.
But this thing was such an odd shape....and colour.
It seemed to shift in shape...almost like it was liquid metal.
And no matter what direction or speed, it managed to stay on my path.
I tried to adjust my viewing angle (while driving...which is a silly thing to do)
but I couldn't get a really good bead on it.
Finally I pulled over....to get out my camera...
I cleaned the bird poop off my windshield to get a clearer photo.
Too late...it was gone.
That experience still freaks me out.

A TRUE STORY!
One dark night years ago when I was driving out of the supermarket, I stopped dead in awe, there above my car was hovering a large and perfectly round brightly lit object. For five minutes I sat there staring in wonder at this UFO, and it never moved an inch, and I kept watching even though cars behind were sounding their horns...

I eventually realised it was one of the car park lamps!

The book is pricey, but here you can get free, short summary, whats inside (pdf file):

This book is about [quote] "probing the possibilities".
In other words....no, none of this is possible.
I agree.

Even if you could travel fast enough, the distances are still too great.
The closest Planet or group of bodies that could even remotely cater to some type of life are about 20 years away at light speed.
Light speed!
20 years!
40 year round trip if you don't stop for a Tee shirt!

So all this hinges on FTL engines, controllable Wormholes or Zeffram Cochrane being born real soon.

And I am not of the theory that "if something doesn't exist, it could".
"Warp drive isn't real yet...but it might be"
Thats not an argument.
No...sorry...if something doesn't exist, it means only one thing...it doesn't exist...end of story.
I didn't say it won't ever exist...for the same reason you can't say it might.
Its not an argument.

The biggest problem I have is with the time sync.
In all the history of the universe and the span of time, the odds of two lifeforms being created, existing and evolving
...and somehow overlapping their existence in time, is pretty slim.
Forget the time needed for the interstellar journey...that doesn't even come close.
Dinosaurs existed on our own planet...couldn't get much closer.
They lived on this planet for 165 million years.
165 million years!
I can't even comprehend that length of time.
And still, humans never even came close to meeting one.
That all happened 200 million years ago!

And what about the idea of seeing into the future?
Which is what you would need to do to plan a trip to some far off Galaxy
and hope to run into another lifeform civilization.
When aliens looked towards our planet they might have seen early Apes and Wooly Mammoths.
but by the time they got here we have Justin Bieber and gold plated Humvees.
(yeah, I know...nothing's changed)

And how do these Aliens know where to go?

Okay...so you got big science...and mad science skills.
You got hyper transport wormhole technology.
They must have some pretty advanced communication and monitoring science
to be able to see where we are and what is here.
So...why bother making the trip then?
One look and you can see it ain't worth visiting.
Much more interesting places in the universe.

We went to the Moon because we wanted to know what the surface was like.
We didn't have the technology to tell us.
I can tell you everything about Mars without ever having gone there.
No need to pack people in a tin can anymore unless you are thinking of colonizing.
Which you wouldn't do if it was already full of lifeforms that can't get along.

Dammit Jim, I'm an Actor not a star trekking Doctor.
Stop getting your science ideas from TV shows!

the next step we will take in space propulsion will either be more expulsion rockets, or emp pulse drives. there just isn't anything else we can build that will actually move us faster in space that you can walk down to bigalow , hand him a work order and say get it done. partial reality to go faster than light thru radiation, magnetic field rotating drives. plasma, fusion, light rockets-those are still science fiction. there for not real, at least for our on the table tech. its like money. what is in your pocket boy? that's your real pocket book, not what if, or when I get paid. like air dave says, this is what we got right now. scifi is great , our minds travel faster than light every time we pop in a dvd and get on the enterprise and engage. what are UFOs? Unidentified Flying Objects. and that is exactly the answer you will get if you ask. ask about flying saucers or alien vehicles coming to earth from other planets and you will get another answer.

I've never seen one . . . . but I keep an open mind.

I totally agree with you airdave.

What I wanted to say by linking to the certain books/files is, that words like space-drive, warp-drive, antigravity, mass/inertia cancellation are no longer in sci-fi-fantasy encyclopedia only, but are also subjects of scientific research and studies. Esp. the last one, in light of Noble prize in physics 2013(Higgs field and Higgs boson)

Will these theories ever be fruitful? No one knows, but Im happy that some people are working on this.
I can not agree with the fact, that we are sentenced to the eternal existence in infinity void.

As lepercan say keep an open mind

We got Miguel Alcubierre:
Miguel Alcubierre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And his article from "Classical and Quantum Gravity" journal:
The warp drive: hyper-fast travel within general relativity - Abstract - Classical and Quantum Gravity - IOPscience

I regret I didnt learn physics enough

"theory" "concept" "idea" "fiction" "fake"
poppycock" "hogwash" "voodoo" "witchcraft"
"magic" "hobbit" "dragon" "leprechaun"

all words that are now in the dictionary.
LOL

sorry.

Mars needs women!
They're coming.
Hide your daughters.

Me...I'm keeping an open mind.
That way their mind control Ray won't work on me.

Aliens are from Mars.
Cats are from Venus
...or some other hot hellish place I think.
