Winter War

Last Friday it was 75 years since The Winter War ended.
Yesterday I found this from the net

I enjoyed that spin on an old joke.

Old Joke?

It was first used referring to 'Wee Red Hairy MacGregor' (Rob Roy) and the English Red Coats near Bannockburn.

That's odd. I though it originated with Ulysees outside Troy...

I think you'll find the Battle of Bannockburn (1314) occurred some time before James Joyce wrote Ulysses in 1918.

"We stood against them, proud Edward's army, and sent them home again, to think again" [Flower of Scotland - The Corries]

I visited the eastern part of Finland on two occasions. Every churchyard has numerous graves of Finnish soldiers, killed in the two outbursts of war in that area. Many of them very young, most of them very brave... Very humbling and very sad ...

John,

Are you saying that this is not a true story then?

And didn't the Battle of Bannockburn have something to do with spider's and a cave? Homer sheltered in the cave after being stung?

I too am confused....,...

On a more serious note Diderick, I know what you are talking about. The Finns were brave, and fought against terrible odds. Mainly successfully in the end....
