I don't doubt that there are many more variations to American than just the distinct Northern and Southern dialects, but as Brit. I've never been able to understand how a Geordie can understand a Cornishman, or a Glaswegian a Brummy ... but somehow we all stumble along. Myself, I'm a Cockney Roma living in a 90% Welsh speaking rural mountain village. Conversation can be difficult at times ... but it's always FUN.
