Farman 170 1925 airliner 1/48 NEW
The Farman 170's distinctive shape was typical of the first airliners.
Although considered ungainly when compared to later aircraft design, they were a design response to the limitations of engine power and the Farman 170 is simply consistent with contemporary designs. The Farman aircraft possess their own aesthetics which are every bit as worthy of respect as it's later more 'slipstreamed' descendants. There is no denying their charm once you've had a chance to examine them closely! Having designed the Farman 120 already in 1/72 scale, we decided to create a 1/48 model of the single-engined Jabiru first as Rosie has had the drawings prepared for some time. 19 of these aircraft were built and operated by Farman Airlines and Air France: some flying well into the early 'thirties. I will post images of Rosie's prototype build shortly. We are looking to have a model available before the end of 2012.... but we will see how we go..

The art deco interior of a Farman 170
One of the aspects of French aircraft of this era was the sumptuous interiors, nowhere better illustrated than in this image. It would be interesting to create this decorative interior for our model. Amazing.

I found specially attractive the aircraft from this era. This was an age of discovery , a golden age.
The interior is incredible and could be great to have that in a model.

Gosh. I missed this completely (was out of the net for a few weeks).
I once tried to build a peanut scale (13-inch wingspan) stick and tissue Jabiru without success. So far, I have yet to complete one of your wonderful historic airpliner models, but am collecting them all in hopes of doing so one day. Will this one appear at ECardmodels, along with the Breguets, the W.20, the DH-4As, and all the Tigers and Foxes? Don |

Farman 170 - Prototype Jabiru Build
The design has developed well. Here is the latest image showing the work Rosie has done on the prototype. The body is slightly octagonal and the radiator housings have been inset into the tail.

Farman 170 Prototype
Well the prototype is largely finished here. The sesqui 'wing' and the struts are in place and Rosie has had another go at constructing the nose which is now very close to the actual profile. While laborious, trial fitting offers the best way of addressing the compound curves. Excellent progress on this aircraft which does not exist in kit form in any media with the drawings being prepared from photographs. This will be another paper 'first'.
This is a far more stylish and racy Jabiru than the larger four-engined version.
