Thanks, Corey and Legion. Very lucid explanations and plausible speculations. I can now visualize the geometry of swinging the gun.

I'm also glad to hear that you are once again experiencing joy from model designing and building, Corey.

Well, I am getting there. I got the masts and the stack on with the right canter to them. Got the center deck house on. A few more details such as the anchors and it will be about ready.

Let me know if you need a beta builder, this one looks interesting. I haven't built anything in a year due to life commitments, but would gladly take this one on.

Also, thanks Kaz, I still owe you the CSS Arkansas.

It's yours! I am finishing some small details now. I will get it broke down over the Fourth and get it off to you.

The anchor system is kind of neat. The stow then inboard but are set up so they can be dropped out the side of the boat fast. In the photo they have one secured and the second one just hung up on the removable davit.

More screen shots soon.

Great addition to your ACW vessel listing and I am looking forward to folliwing Knife's build. I have missed his builds of CT's vessels lately.

For all of the details this should build up pretty easily. Even the details are basic, but will look nice. That is one reason I just fell in love with this little boat. Also, I will leave a clean deck (with out the gun rails) so that the model can be built as the blockade runner Neptune as well. I am going to include the crates and barrels from my flatboat model to load up the decks for those so inclined.

As to the coloring, i am guessing that the USN probably didn't change too much. I am leaving it in dark and light grays with a dark hull. Any thoughts on this please let me know.

This ship was used as a runner but no built as one, because it was built before the war. I suspect that the upper masts may have been cut down some and anything that could be made quite was. I was thinking about putting shutters on the porthole and windows for light discipline as the Neptune, as later runners had, but I do not knwo and can not tell from the one drawing if the Neptune was so rigged. Anyhow, I think it will be another two-for model, Neptune and Clyde.

As to knifes builds, I too am looking forward to it. I have some fine photos of so many builds thanks to his talent.

Well, time to break down some parts!

With everything going so well I should have known. My wheels are set two high. I know this because the drive shaft for the wheels would cut right across the ship about two feet above the deck. Something not seen in the good photo of the ship. Looking at it in that light I van see now that my paddle boxes are just too high as well. Time for a refit, Darn. What can I say, I just got going too fast.

OK, new profile. A better match to the photo I have and the drive shaft is now safely under the deck. I may need to redo the deck hows as it is where the crank shafts and piston arms for the back acting engines would be.They would need room to swing in an arc but I am unsure how big any of that is. I might have room now. Research time.

Looking good Cory. Lots of detail and looks a bit fiddly, but I'm sure it'll work out. Interesting ship, will definitely be another one to build.
