CSS New Orleans floating battery 1862 1/250 scale full hull
I am finalizing my 1/250 scale New Orleans, a 20 gun floating battery used by the South in the early part of the Civil War. The model will have 20 highly detailed guns as well as an option for 20 generic cannon I normally use. The small detailed guns have a total of 30 pieces and are quite hard to make well. However, they do look the part when done. I relied heavily on John Wallis for information about this floating battery and I have left off some of the possible options, that may have been added, such as a bulwark around the outer edge and the possibility that the center bombproof may have been round or octagonal in shape.
This model is full hulled and somewhat over built at this scale. However, it will upscale well. I also designed the model to use as little layering as possible and still be strong. Overall this is a simple grain barge with a few out buildings and 20 guns. So it is a simple build. However, the opportunity for detail is big on this one. I include in the model the boats, ammunition boxes and a few barrels to use if you want. So, this is my build so far. When done I will make any needed adjustments to the model and finalize the instructions and send it over to Ecards!

Looking good Corey! Will be adding this to my C.T.’s Ironclads collection once it’s released.

Corey, it wasn't a grain barge, it was a floating dock. The other one converted, CSS Memphis was never completed.

Thank you all... too many irons in the fire at once. Finally got more or less moved into our place in Quinton Virginia. Now maybe I can find some time to get back to model design...
