William Norris 1861 gun boat, in the download

Hello all, I am uploading a new model in the downloads. it is a small gunboat designed by a Mr. William Norris before the Civil War and submitted to, and rejected by the US Navy's Ironclad Board in 1861. If anyone would like to build this full hulled model, pictures would be great! Now, back to that Palmetto State Beast! Enjoy,
CT

I posted most of this in another thread but I do not mind repeating it!

I was just checking downloads and I could not believe it! The basic free version of my Virginia II has over 100 downloads and the 1861 Norris gunboat that I posted there a few hours ago already has 10 downloads. It dose my hart good to know so many modelers are into ironclads!
Just a reminder, her are the 1/250 scale models I have completed so far,

CSS Wilmington, not yet released, waiting on pictures and feedback
CSS Virginia II, free download for the basic, full model at Ecardmodels.com
CSS Fredericksburg, available at Ecardmodels.com
CSS Tennessee, not yet released, waiting on pictures and feedback
CSS Palmetto State, free, not yet released, needing pictures, PM me if you want one
Norris Gun boat, free download

And I have these in the works to be done soon...
1/72 scale full hull CSS Palmetto state
1/250 scale CSS Jackson
1/72 scale Ironclad casement section, cut a way
1/72 scale CSS Squib
1/10 scale Confederate keg torpedo
1/250 scale CSS Charleston

And a friend from this site and I are actively conspiring to finish a 1/250 scale model of the CSS Chattahoochee.

So that's what on the menu anyhow.

I could really use pictures of completed models and your feed back and ideas are always welcomed!

I had a question on the gunboat, and I see I didn't make it clear in the model download. The little rectangles in white are to be removed. These are the vents and openings, apparently they are the only way into or out of the boat! The small rectangle in the stern is for the smoke stack opening. The little rolled stack runs from the floor up through the opening. I hope this helps,
Enjoy.

Wow, looks great. I noticed that you added tabs. Do you find that easier to work with?

Would you find a lager scale cut a way version with full inside interesting? I may have to work on one.

Any how, looks great, thanks.

Well, the tabs are my "fall back" until I can figure something else out whenever I build something. Skills and techniques are still in the novice catagory, I'm afraid.

Actually, after seeing the design diagrams you posted on the download site you bet I'd like to build one with an interior. I'm an artilleryman by trade and found the gun carriage unique. The rest of the interior would be an interesting build in say 1/72, or larger.

Great kit, CT. Thanks again.

I noticed the gun too, it seems really long compared to the figure piloting the ship, and the six wheeled carriage is odd. Could be fun, I may do this then.

As for tabs, I end up doing most of my models that I make by butting up the ends for the most part. If I need tabs, I make them out of printer paper so my ends still but up. Some times however, I do use them on some models. I may start adding them to the models I design with notes explaining that they can be used or simply cut off. Options ar always good.

Cool. The ladder/steps would have been a must, though the original drawing didn't show them. The rail up top looks good too, if/when I get around to doing this one myself I think I will do the same. What did you use for smoke, cotton?
