Fine-looking riverine fleet, knife.

Thanks for your major contribution to the craft and to the preservation of the history of these ships, and for your generosity and helpfulness to other model builders, Corey.

The KUDOS should go to CT Ertz, he's the one with the goal to duplicate the entire CSS fleet. And he makes many of them free to the public. Like Fiddler's Green models, he includes a brief history with each model to help bring it to life.

Spar torpedo

Hello, Knife.
Wonderful model.
I have a little question:
The spar torpedo is the 1/250 scale from downloads forum section?
Regards,
jose luis

Yes it is from the downloads section. I printed it out on regular (65lb) paper and wrapped it around an unfolded paperclip to give it rigidity. While you're in the download section don't forget to download the flags that CT has made availiable too.

I thought the flags were drawn a little too large so I converted the PDF file to a BMP file using 123PDFtoImage, a totally free program available from the internet. I then opened up the BMP file with Paint.Net, another totally free program, and shrunk the flag images to two smaller sizes for use on CT's ironclads. I added the spar topedos and recolored lifeboats to fill in the page. Now I can outfit an ironclad with topedos, flags, and lifeboats by printing out just one additional sheet.

Had a copy of the Raleigh model printed out at FedEx Office (aka Kinkos), but it came out way too dark. Totally washout the armor plating detail. So... I'm treating this as a prepatory build, till I can get my inkjet printer back up and running at home.

Looks like I'll have to trim the ends of the keel former on the next build of it.

Here's some more shots of my Raleigh so you can see the coloring. Printed on a Brother MFC-240C all-in-one machine then given a light coat of clear floor polish (Plege).

Printed out the Raleigh on my home printer, since the copy printed at FedEx Office was too dark and washout details.

The last picture is of my shipyard of in-progress ironclads.

Nice looking build and fleet. Be careful, these things multiply quickly.
