Before I decided to do this Carrier Tug (and its JSU)
I had already collected some reference material regarding towed JSUs and Trailer/Carts,
so don't worry, I will be including some of those.

Swampfox sent me some pics of the Portable Control Tower.
Actually made me laugh, sorry.
Looks like a joke thing at first, to be honest.

A box trailer or small van, painted black and white checks
and a glass bubble added on the roof where a "controller" can sit and look out at the airfield!

But I guess it makes sense...and although it might look a little silly,
its obviously a necessary piece of equipment.
And I could very easily create something like this.
The bubble dome might be an issue, but everything else is possible.

My only issue is the age of the equipment.
I believe all the pics Fox sent are of WW2 vintage.
You mentioned that it may have been used at later times...
well, I would have to see some proof of that.
Hopefully a photo or two of a later version used in the Koren or VietNam conflicts?
Or even used in a non conflict environment, that doesn't matter.
But if its not 1950s or later, then I don't want to include it.

Hawkman...I did a FORD Tractor for the WW2 kit...this is not what you are talking about?
I'm assuming you mean a later Ford Tractor then...so, post a pic so I can understand what model

Dave, Yes it is a later version, pretty much a militarized farm tractor with enclosed cab, I will post pics of it and some other GSA we used on the flightline.

AirDave, I spent several hours this morning looking through my books for the picture I remember of one of these Control Towers being used in Korea, as F-86's were being given landing instructions. But, no luck in finding the picture I was thinking of;-(

I'll keep looking.

Dave;
Here are some pics of flight line GSA that I used nearly every day. you can also see most of the Tractor I had mentioned earlier. Also including some scans of the model kit I have of it. The kit is a USAF version with one door in the rear of the cab. Ours had a sliding door on either side. It was yellow with grey wheels. There is a pic of fire extinguishers, an MD-3 AGPU-the green box on wheels, then a Hobart GPU-the yellow box on wheels, and last an oxygen cart, the one with all the tubes on it.

Jeff, those pics are so tiny I can't see a thing.

I can see the tractor in the last two...I didn't realize it was just a farm tractor?
I'm not sure I want to try a model like that.
I understand the application, it makes sense...but its not exactly what I want to put in this kit.

I'll keep it on the back burner though.

Sorry Dave.
I will post links to the original size that I scanned them at they are all over 1meg in size so I could not post them full size and I thought I got the right links..I undestand on the tractor, it was a popular flight line vehicle, and used as much as a tug.

Working on another "add-on" unit for the Carrier Tug...this one is a Fire Response unit.
Basically just a cage type addon that carries a tank of suppresion liquid and space for other hardware.

And I am also planning on a self contained Fire response Tug.
...found an interesting carrier style vehicle.

In the meantime I finished this tow JetStart "Huffer" unit.

I have another Tow Start Cart that I might build aswell...an airfield/airport style.
There will definitely be a few variant options in this kit.

there's a few of this model of Huffer onboard the USS Midway:

a couple more angles of the model...

is it just me, or does this thing look like some sort of overgrown lawn mower?

lol
I wish I add a 1/50 scale jet to photograph with it,
to better illustrate the scale.
I'm estimating the real thing is somewhere between 4 and 5 foot tall.

The side compartment is for storage of the flexible "huffer" hose.

If you ever get interested in doing the Ford tug, it looks like the industrial version of the Ford 2000. Here' an ex Penn ANG one with a add on Air Force snow plow

I'm thinking, when this kit is done
and I am thinking about adding that "one more" model...
thinking about a "bonus" model (like I did with the first kit)
that I might whip up a simplified version of this Ford.

It doesn't fit exactly in with what I am working on for this kit,
and I am afraid there are too many detail areas that I just don't want to tackle.
But maybe a simplified version might make a good "bonus" addition.

Jeff(Hawkman), send me larger pics (of the ones you posted) especially those model diagrams.
