Working on this new project......Enterprise Spacedock

Working on something small but interesting (I think?)...

not too many parts, and should be pretty simple construction, but I think its gonna be a little challenging because of all the little cut-out sections.

If it works, I will share it here first!

Re: Working on this new project......

Like to see how all the cutouts are handled myself. I'll be watching with interest.

Re: Working on this new project......

wow, I guess I underestimate the Trek fans...yes of course, its a version of a SpaceDock.

The point was, I built this little Enterprise miniature...new Enterprise about 4-5" long.
I think its a beta version, not very accurate or super well designed, but I gave it a shot...and even with my limited abilities, it turned out pretty good in my opinion!
Good enough, that I am not interested in tackling another at the moment!

But to sit on my shelf, I need a stand of some sort.
And I had no idea what to build to support it, since it definately needs some support for the nacelles as well as hull/saucer.

My trick is a miniature Spacedock, that my little Enterprise will sit inside!
I thought it might be an interesting twist on the "stand" idea.
Lets see if I can make this work...

It's a great idea! I like it because it is different when compared to "ordinary" stands. Can you post pics as you design and build?

Re: Working on this new project......

well I have print sheets all worked out...three pages in total.

have some of the parts cut out, just working on all the interior cuts now.
phew...its a lot of tiny holes! lol

parts are very simple...but I already messed up the main facility building
which "hangs" from the upper framework.
(just my sloppy building skills! ...I'll print another one)

since the intention is for this to be a "stand" for my mini Enterprise
I have come up with a simple support beam/gantry that will not only support the saucer and nacelles, but also create a connection for both sides of the Spacedock framework, hopefully keeping it in shape.

I don't think I could cut out that much detail.

Re: Working on this new project......

My fingers cramp just looking at the amount of cutting. Sure does look nice though!

LOL tell me about it!
Too many little holes to cut out!
Who designed this annoying....?!

anyway...
got all the holes cut out.
Actually not that bad, once you establish a rhythm.
Pick a row...bottom cut...cut...cut...side cut...cut...cut...top cut...cut...cut..cut
and so on.
Took me about 5 hours in total, sitting watching TV, to cut all the pieces to this stage.
Now, I will turn everyhting over and colour the "outside".
(I'll use the airbrush and just spray a grey colour and catch all the card edges too)
