A message from Dave

Moments ago I suffered a big disaster.

I lost my main storage harddrive.
This is not just some files lost...this is my main separate harddrive that I use to store everything of importance.
It is separate from my PC...a standalone hardrive.

I have been meaning to backup this drive for a long time...copy it...clone it...anything

but I never did.

Moments ago, in an attempt to free up another storage drive, I accidentally reformatted the wrong drive.

On this drive I had every personal item from the last 10 years...photos, videos, artwork...
all my airbrush artwork, all my websites and website files.
All my collected Card Models and all my own creations.

I have lost everything...I am shaking and sweating and don't know how to recover from this.
I am typing this because I am so wound up, I need to do something, and theres nobody around me to yell at.
....

you aren't aware, but I just took along break from that last sentence.
My heart is about to explode.

The PT Boat project is done...I have no files, and I'm not sure if or when I will find the motivation to start it from scratch.
KoolWheelz are of course on indefinite hold...but those are simple enough I can start from scratch.
All other card model projects are gone and on indefinite hold.

My immediate concern is somehow recovering my websites.
I have created and maintain about a dowzen websites for myself and other people.
I have no idea how to deal with that.

10 years of collecting personal and family photos and such...
I can't believe how stupid I have been not backing these things up in recent years.
As I said, I was about to copy some files onto another harddrive, that was the whole point of formatting a drive and why the accident happened.

Now I'm just rambling...sorry
You don't realize how important the computer has become in your life
until something big like this happens.
I have had harddrive failures before...I have lost files.
But never anything like this.
Right now I am devastated.
Since this is also my main source of income, this has an even bigger impact.

I apologize for airing all this here...I am just trying to vent as much as possible, since I don't know what else to do.
This isn't an attempt at sympathy...you guys need not even reply to this post, because unless you can miraculously turn back time, you can't help me.
...but thanks for listening.

OMG That SUCKS!

My thoughts a prayers are with you!
I am no computer expert by any means but is there an undo software out there anywhere that could help you recover some of your lost data?
I did a quick google searck and found some stuff but have no idea if it would work for you... Undo Delete - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Downloads

Good luck!

Dave,
It's really sad yo hear this. I will not even try to cheer you up, because I don't think I could find the words.

But there's always hope... I would suggest you take your HD into some repair shop and tell them to try to recover what can be recovered, you never know!

Besides that, I cannot tell you how sorry I feel. I am an amateur designer myself and have also all my stuff since 2004 in various CDs and DVDs plus in an external HD, just kike you. Just imagining losing all of it freezes my blood...

Let me say goodbye now and a big big "GOOD LUCK!". I really wish you can find some kind of solution to your situation.

being fresh from a format with nothing having been overwritten there is a good chance of recovering everything

talked to our it specialist ,its seems there are companies that can still recover some of the files .is expensive and we dont know of any in your country.
our some programs like this Unformat hard drive or google on unformat .

best is to do nothing and leave it alone untill you got the software (or a company ) even reboot or powerdown ..

ps I HAVE THE PICTURE OF YOUR BOAT thats atleast 1 picture (sry a joke might shear you up just a wee bit)

I have used the Mac version of this program with a fair amount of success:

Data Rescue 3

As others have said, with only a reformat and no data written, your chances of recovery are good.

Be aware though, that recovering data will take a long time. Also you end up with files (and file fragments) only- Nothing is sorted into directories, etc.

BEST OF LUCK, SIR!

Airdave, Relax, this sort of thing happens all the time in the I.T. world. As long as you don't do anything else to the drive, (write files to it, throw it in frustration, etc.) a professional can recover your data for you. Ask around, you probably have a friend that knows someone at work. (I think I'm safe in saying all cardmodelers are friends of Airdave!) You do want someone that does this for a living though. It won't even take them very long. It is important not to do anything else to it though.

Thanks for all your work, and best of luck!

You need a guy who is a specialist "Disk Doctor" but check up with an authority before giving it to anyone. Formatting does not usually destroy files. If you are running a full antivirus program check with them to see if they copy the essential file position data.

Hope it all turns out well. Send Zathros an email !
