Dave,

In some folks books, I'm still a kid at 1/2 a century in age. The first thing I learned in life that was important to my well-being was 'Make my wife happy!'. The part that counts is the 2nd thing I learned and that is 'Never, ever second guess yourself!' If you have to watch your tongue for every single thing that comes out of your mouth you either have a really bad disposition or more than likely and *most often*, the offended few or the offended masses need to check their sensitivities at the door. I apologize for not checking in on this thread sooner as I don't follow armor all that much (My Bergepanther is still in the shop for over a year now.) Anyways, I enjoy your builds and your commentary so please keep doing both. Your vehicle and your design methods are starting to re-kindle my interest in armor too Oh...yeah, before I forget...rule 3 subtlety and political correctness are for politicians and fashion designer types. Nelson would have never defeated the French at Trafalgar nor Wellington on the mainland by being subtle! Thanks for grabbing the bull by the horns and doing what you do

Ron

continuing with the AUTOCAR...

Final pair of (front) Wheels finished.
Went together fine...I have assembled 6 wheels now, so I am getting good at it!
Less Spokes in the front, so that nice too!

Up to now, its been a new project...a new task...a little frustrating every now and then.
Interesting though, learning about this little vehicle.

But...tonight, I had my first "oh wow is that cool or what?" moment! lol
Once all four Wheels were in place and the Chassis sat on its own.
Its actually beginning to look like I might be creating something!

Looks great, Dave

Almost a shame to put a body on it.

I Grock...

This is really sweet!

Nice to see such craftsmanship reflect WWI. I've always felt it to be a neglected era.

I'm still watching,

The DC

thanks again guys...

just wanted to say, that I have stylized the Engine components somewhat.
The purpose being to make the assembly a little simpler.
I would rather avoid going overboard in any one particular area.
Hopefully what I have created so far suits the taste of most.

...having said that, I obviously need to add a few more parts,
like an Exhaust system and Cooling system components.
And I think I will work on that stuff next.

As I mentioned before, I also have to do up some of the Steering Linkage.
This is another area where I don't want to get too carried away.
But I need to track down more reference material first.

It looks to me as if you have captured the essential look of the AutoCar chassis.

The wayward wheel

So I finished the wheel that Dave sent me. I only had one problem as you can see in the first figure. The rim and tread pieces did not meet up as designed. I assume this is due to some error only my part as all of Dave's wheels look perfect. Other than what ever I screwed up (I may have mixed the inner and outer piece around) the build was very easy.

The Rim and Tread bands are designed to attach offset, with seams opposite.

In other words, the seam of the inner band is put at the halfway point inside the outer band.
You should find that the inner band is slightly too long and needs a little trimming.
it varies depending on how accurately you assemble the parts.

(On one of my wheels, I trimmed a little too much and had an inside gap.)

You appear to have the bands joined with matching ends.
And if you mixed the inner and outer bands, that would definitely cause trouble
since the inner band is supposed to be smaller.

Its something that will have to be illustrated in the Instructions.
Not to worry...I already know the wheels do go together.
You just showed me that the basic assembly is straightforward and understandable.
