Interesting to note...

I have said many times, to roll the leading edge of the paper wing
(on aircraft models like the Mustang, etc)
rather than creasing and folding the front edge of the wing skins.

But the Thunderbolt has a definite "fold line"
...the shadow proves that there is a sharper, more visible crease at the leading edge.
I think it lends itself more to a creased and folded paper wing edge.

But remember, that front crease is low on the profile of the wing.
Note how it crosses the outboard machine gun tube,
but misses the inboard gun completely.

Will that work?

Just to say I helped (Even if I didn't LOL.).

Thanks,

Been a while since I posted anything P47...

so here goes...

SNAFU...nothing to report.
lol
sorry...been too busy with other things.
But, its definitely on the to-do list.

...

Talahassee Lassie...finished!

It went out to Gerardo/milenio (paperjerry) for test build some time ago,
but he has been understandably busy with real work
and just informed me that its "almost done"!

I wanted to wait...I didn't really need the test buld...I just like releasing
models with Gerardo's photos! He always does nice presentations.

...
I was also hoping to release Robert Johnson's P47 "Lucky" with some build photos.
Mike Bauer has been tackling that one, but he too has more important responsibilities.

Sometimes, the models must take a back seat.

I will probably go ahead and release that one and we will wait to see Mike's build at a later time.

I'm getting real excited! I will definitely get Snafu when it's available.

Thanks for falling to my tantrum!

Tallahassee Lassie has been published.
Milenio (Gerardo Escobedo) has just posted some pics of his build of the model.

Lovely!
I like both the paint scheme and the extremely skillful way you use the metal effects on the surfaces. A must have.

Before I post this (if necessary) on an aircraft/WW2 forum,
I thought I would give my fellow paper modeling friends at shot at it first...

I am working on my first RAF Thunderbolt kit.
Not sure how many more I might do, but I must do at least one.

I looked for some ideas...and the most common modeled versions
appear to be the North African squadrons 1944-1946.
I had preferred the dark earth/dark green paint colours, but I found a lot more
information and visual reference for the SEAC planes in gray and and olive colours.

But...I really don't like the SEAC markings.
Thise very small roundels.
Just didn't look very British what. (lol)

And then I came across two Thunderbolts
...out of a group delivered in 1944 to SEAC
...which went to the UK for testing purposes.

These were equipped with standard UK markings for 1944.

However, its plain to see, what looks like a Type C roundel on the fuselage
but with a red border...not deep yellow.

Is this because the aircraft is not going into combat...used for testing and experimental purposes?

No, its not the B/W photo
...yes, insignia yellow does tend to photograph dark sometimes.
But in this photo, the border ring is very dark and matches the tone of the center red roundel (and the red tail fin flash).
And it does not match the main navy blue ring.

All scale models of this plane, and there are a few showcased online, have the yellow
bordered Type C roundels.
This is not correct based on this photo taken in 1944.

Any ideas on the roundel colours?

I'm not stuck on doing this RAF Jug, if a better option presents itself.
I just thought it was prettier with the full size roundels
and interesting because it went to the UK (for experimental purposes).
if nobody else agrees, I will toss out the idea.

I will be very interested to find out what you learn about this red surround to the roundel. I have never come across this before.
Roundel Round-Up > Vintage Wings of Canada (for example)

In any event, I look forward to one or more RAF/Empire/Commonwealth Thunderbolts.
