go for it!
I did come up with something this afternoon, after glancing at some of the photos again. Sometimes, when you look, you can read words, just for instant, and then the more you look the harder it gets to see anything. But once again I saw the word "airplane". And I also saw "missions" With some thought about the letters and word structure I think I see, I came up with "Last A-26 warplane/airplane" And for the second line "6____ __ missions" Or, something thereabouts. I got real excited... so I went hunting for info on this particular A-26 and its history. Guess what? It was produced late in the war and was never delivered to the air force. lol Scrub that idea!

oh, and as I am typing, I see umtutsut has found it!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow!! awesome Les! and you know what...one of the first companies I went looking for was Lear. Because of "Little Willie". The name Odom gave to the autopilot. But I couldn't connect the lettering...and I definitely never saw that logo. This is great! ... I'll bet you the lettering underneath is the same list of Cities. L = Los Angeles 6 is actually G = Grand Rapids ... So, is it okay to award umtutsut a prize for his efforts? Would everyone else mind? I appreciate all who put in some valuable time on this. Big thanks to you all! But since Umtutsut found the prize...he gets the prize. I'll give him(Les) a free copy of the model once its done. If no-one thinks that is unfair?

Definitely well deserved and NOT unfair. Great detective work by all, but UTS made the ultimate discovery.

Reynolds took his profits and indulged his hobby, a lifelong love of flying. In the 1930s, he’d owned a Stinson Reliant biplane he named the “Flying Printasign” after his signmaking company. Even as he was planning to exit the pen business, he bought a used A-26 bomber. He had the armor stripped off and retrofitted the plane with new commercial engines, christening it the “Reynolds Bombshell.” He hired war-hero Bill Odom as pilot,[18] Tex Sallee as copilot, and in 1947 the three of them flew around the world in 78 hours, 55.5 minutes, making four stops for refueling, to set the world record for twin-engine propeller aircraft. (The previous record, set by Howard Hughes, was 91 hours, 14 minutes. Both records were surpassed in 1957.) Reynolds had timed the flight to coincide with the international introduction of the Reynolds Rocket,[19] a pen that wrote in two colors. Read the full story here: Milton Reynolds - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Wondering could the logo text be about manufacturing 8,000,000 pens in 6-weeks? Thinking that the logo is a pen and paper... Can't find the photo that I looked at yesterday, that maybe was a little clearer. I did find this page today: http://digital.lib.washington.edu/fi...Milton1240.xml It mentions archived photos and newsreels of the around the world flight, with a contact link to ask about specific items. Mike

good thinking Mike...I too considered something to do with the Reynold's Rocket pens.
But, if you read a few posts back from here, you'll see we finally determined exactly what the logo is...and the adjoining lettering would be related to that. I'm sure it is the company locations (as appears in all Lear ads). The A26 carried a Lear Autopilot...Odom called it Little Willie. On the second round-the-world flight, it gave up halfway into the flight. Lear must have been a sponsor on the P47 aswell. So, the logo has been discovered....and I am moving ahead with the P47 model design.

Also, I was just the messenger. The folks on Hyperscale really found the info; the real credit is theirs. As an alternative, maybe have a raffle for anyone (except me) who contributed their thoughts? Les (The Voice of Authority -- VoiceofAuthority.net - The Voice Stylings of Les Dorr, Jr.) |

No problem Les.
Next time you want a model, please let me know. And I will make sure you get a copy or a discount or something. Some of you already have access to free models from me. Either through the shop or long term friendship. And anyone gets a free model if they ask for it. (In return for a documented build of course.) MacSong (Gary), Ryan Short, SCEtoAux(Doug), Rich, Wag(Wayne), mbauer(Mike), Thorst (Thorst), swampfox (Swamp or is it Fox?), and 3turner(lives in a warmer climate...not fair)... let me just repeat "a big thank you" for all the help. Part of why I put out requests like this, is to stir up this type of activity. (Not just to get my work done) I find this to be a somewhat pointless and wasteful way to spend the day. And yet, playing detective is so much fun, and there is some odd sense of accomplishment at the end of a search like this. So, I hope you all had fun with this...I'll come up with another annoying search soon, I'm sure.
