Air Racers!
So, obviously this has been a requested topic by a couple of individuals
and I finally got around (last year) to creating a couple of "air racer" models. Miss America...an unlimited P51 Mustang racer. Which was offered exclusively to those who made a donation to help fund my trip to the 2013 IPMC in Virginia. (Big thanks to all once more!) and then, Excalibur...a P51C that I got to see at the Air & Space Museum in Virginia. This model is of course available in the stores. Don't forget "The Troll"! Which was originally produced as a gift for a member, and used as an exclusve giveaway model in my shop. Its a fantasy plane...and it could easily be categorized as an air racer, since miltary paint schemes are quite common among the racing planes. ... Anyway, I want to expand on the Air Racer topic by adding a few models to the collection. I will be adding an "Air Racer" category to my shop. I might make it "Air Racers & Aerobatics...and then I can include the Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, Ara Sunu, etc planes. First thing for me to do is go back through the older Mustang threads...where many of you suggested some air racers. I already have one or two in mind...but I'll go back and look at your ideas first. I'm also going to add some Texan Air Racers to the bunch! The T-6 Class is one of the popular air racing classes at the Reno Air Races. And I've already seen a few pretty paint schemes. In fact, I could use your help suggesting some candidates. Of the "current" T6 air racers, there are one or two that strike my fancy. You can see some of them here: Pilots and Planes T-6 Racing Association I am leaning toward Big Red, who's been around for quite some time. But I also like the Red Knight. The fact that they are both solid red, is just a coincidence. I'm not restricting myself to anything current...in fact, I have been searching for more vintage stuff. And that how I came across "Lickety Split". Which, as it turns out, was at one time flown by my friend Bud Granley! (I already did Bud's Golden Hawk Texan paper model!) I wasn't aware that Bud was still flying this plane...the T6 Racing website has him as pilot. I'll have to ask him. I thought he flew the plane back in the 1990s. Anyway, I couldn't resist the pinup artwork on this plane...and its a nice bright paint scheme. So, this will be my first Air Racer Texan release. Yes...I plan on another "Fund Raiser" again this year...I want to go to the IPMC again. Instead of "exclusive" models that are only available to certain people, my plan is to offer some special fund-raiser packages. These Air Racer kits (and the Aerobatic Planes) will be offered in sets at special prices. For example, any three kits for a $25 donation. Or something like that. That way, you can pick and choose which kits you want to receive, especially if you were kind enough to have bought the Miss America/Tuskegee package last year. So, stay tuned.

There is a zebra striped P-51 from the '60s called "Hi-Time II". Might be cool.

well, doesn't that look like an absolute nightmare to repaint!
Lining up all those graphics should be easy-peesy. I'll get right on that. lol only issue I have with this plane is the wing clip. Its different again from the clip I did for Miss America. I don't really want to get into another part modification, but I will have to search out more pics of the wings themselves.

I too noticed the wing tip clip. That under camber would be sporting. The horizontal stab clip seemed straight forward. And there probably wouldn't be really visible panel lines, as they were filled.

eww! lol speaking as a custom painter, that Mustang is a bit of a mess! kudos for the effort to be colourful and outrageous. ...but thumb's down on the actual artwork. I guess the goal is to stand out...be different from the rest of the field. And it definitely does that! lol But I will put that one on the back burner for now. .... The zebra stripe Mustang is a go....already got a folder of reference material! .... How about this pretty bird? I really like the colours on this Reno Racer. She has a sister (which I don't like as much)....
