okay...I think this is enough.
I could be here for weeks adding more and more details to the interior!

I've added the Main Gun Sight (I think thats what it is)
which will attach under the top of the turret and be partially visible through the upper hatchway.

Then I also added the Swivel Drive Mechanisim (I think) for the Turret
which appears to connect to the Aiming System.
Just another larger part to help fill up some space in the Turret.

I'm trying to focus only on larger items that might be visible through the upper Hatches.

A couple of views from underneath.

I've already tweaked some areas of these parts, mainly for structural and assembly reasons.
Once again, I am forgoing technical accuracy for a more simplified build.
I still think it looks okay.

As I said...I could keep going, but I think thats enough.
I still have to connect the lower "cage" and make sure the whole thing fits into the Hull properly.

I realized that I have not built in any sort of locking mechanism for the turret to Hull connection.
The Turret just drops into the hole (in the Hull) and swivels.
I womder if there really is a need for any sort of interlock or slotted connection?

I created a keyway connection on my Centurion Tank (Turret) and it has its own drawbacks.
But in that case, the Gun barrel is a lot longer and heavier...there is a balance issue.
The Saladin Turret is more compact and centrally balanced.
The Lower cage elements should also help center the turret.

The only thing greater than your design skill is your perseverance. Your dedication to seeing a project through to the end is admirable - most people would have given up on this project long ago. I have PayPal at the ready when you are ready to release it! Happy New Year.

I hear you. The elderly woman next door got out today. She has a bad back, bad knees and a bad heart. She shouldn't be out when it is 8F, and I certainly shouldn't have had to be out there shoveling and sweeping her path between her back porch and garage.

I'd hoped to put that off until later this afternoon when we may reach a balmy 18F

yeah, I just shoveled (no blower today) the light dusting of snow
on the driveway and back deck.
About 1 inch or so.

Its biting cold out there, but nice.

I checked the local Weather to verify just how cold it is...
I think I will stay in tomorrow. lol

okay...so, lots of pretend hair pulling over the last two nights!
(no hair left to pull)

Fitted the cage to the bottom of the Turret.
Or tried to...

Is that what we're calling it?
I'm thinking maybe Turret extension? Lower extension.
Its not really a cage.

Its a Floor Pan that is hanging below the Turret by three tubular connectors.
So, from now on, I am calling it the lower extension (or something like that! lol)

..........

Anyway...
things did not go well.
I have struggled with a method for how to connect these parts.
I have not included any reference marks or exact markers for connecting the Turret extension to the Turret itself
so that means I was also flying blind.

My first attempt went easy enough, I got all the connectors glued to the turret
until I noticed the Floor Pan was not in alignment with the Turret (aligned forward).
It was about 15-20 degress rotated.
When you looked into the top of the turret, the seats were way out of place!

So, I carefully cut all the glued connections...trying to do the least amount of visible damage...
and then I refitted the extension assembly, aligning the seats and everything forward.

Except, this time, the vertical connectors were all askew...bent in opposite directions and not very vertical.
The Floor pan was aligned with the Turret, but the entire Extension assembly was angled and not centered with the Turret ring.

So...I cut it all off again!

...
I decided to change a few things.

First, I added a complete skin to the bottom of the turret.
This not only covers the unfinished underside of the turret, it also allows me to add some indicator marks
to help the builder position the Extension connectors.

Its not real important that these connectors are attached at exact locations,
as long as the Turret and Floor Pan assembly are aligned properly.

...
I also guesstimated the position of each extension connector tube and added some marks to the inside Turret floor.

Then, I cut off all the existing Connector Tubes...they were starting to show the damage from being glued and removed three times!
I cleaned everything up and examined the visible damage on the Turret and the extension assembly.

I sanded a few spots, trimmed a few things, and coloured some of the damaged edges.

...
I rebuilt all the Connector Tubes and replaced the upper and lower attachment brackets.
A new Extension assembly is now ready to attach...again.

Oh...and...I printed a new Turret ring strip and covered the damaged (inside) Turret ring.
The connectors have a new surface to attach to.
It was looking pretty rough and really needed to be repaired.

Now, hopefully, with the new positioning marks, and the experience I have gained, I can fit the Turret together properly.
And I can relate some of the experience into the Assembly diagrams.
