That is one fantastic model Dave and the video really shows it off as do the photos. Tons of detail but then you are the Super Dave and I would expect no less, right? Really great job on this Dave. Thank you for sharing. wc

Patiently awaiting the release. I'm reserving my place in line for another one of your great models.

No way would I ever try to build this. Much too big and detailed for me, and being an ex-Grunt I used to shy well away from any AFVs and aircraft, as they all seemed to have trouble deciding which side I was on.

However, I cannot just pass by without congratulating the master on another brilliantly exercised design. Well done again Dave, and I hope you sell hundreds of them mate.

Want a suggestion for the next one? How about the FV432. Much neglected by model makers of any creed, but it was (and I'm led to believe still is) a much used tin box on tracks. We hated the damn things and if possible rode on the outside, but they were very good at doing what they were designed to do.

As I remember them ...

With it's Iraqi skin on. ...

wasn't it you that asked for Morris Quad?
sheesh
I can't get one done before I receive 32 more suggestions.

I am seriously interested in that one.
Enough so, that I might put other ideas aside and do it next.
Haven't completely decided yet.
I still want to do my WW1 Horse Ambulance.

But...as I mentioned...somewhere...I think it might be prudent to downscale my projects.
Stop with these large 1/18, 1/16 models...with interiors and other complicated details.
I can't be spending up to two years on each model.
I have too many project ideas, and not enough time.

Plus, I'm not putting new stuff into the store for a very long time.
Selling kits is the only thing that pays for this hobby (for me).
So I have to pay attention to that.

I was thinking if I go to 1/25 (or smaller?) and lose time consuming details like the interiors,
I could produce kits a lot faster.

.................................................. ..............
Anyway, the Saladin is definitely done enough that I am moving on to the instructions and package.
I'm working on the Cover and Information Pages right now.
Then I'll start laying out the Parts Pages and numbering everything.
After that, I will be able to complete the Assembly Diagrams (with Part No.s).

In the meantime, heres an ALBUM full of PHOTOS of the finished thing:

And this one...

Magnificent model, Dave. I will buy one, although, like Johnny, I doubt that I will ever have the nerve to try to build it.

Another vote for the Morris Quad.

These large highly detailed models are collectors items. And not for the timid.

I wish you would do more in the 1/25 scale or smaller. As you have adequately proved with the Koolwheelz models, your texturing is tremendous. I think you would have a broader audience for 1/33 or smaller.

Although my big models have more parts and appear to be more complicated
I still apply my "make it simple" philosophy.

When I look at a Halinski or GPM kit, I see a lot more very small parts than I want to deal with.
And what appear to be more complicated assemblies that require some very creative cutting, shaping and forming.
The end results are amazing...but these kits deserve their Advanced skill level rating.
Experience is definitely a requirement with those models.

I'm not a patient builder, and I get frustrated with very small parts and intricate assemblies.
I remember, years ago, whining about trying to build the Hand Grips on Uhu's Blade Runner Blaster (Pistol).
To this day, I think I have only ever seen his build, and no others (of this model).
I cried that it was unbuildable, but obviously that is not the case (since he built it himself).
And I was very inexperienced when I tried to build it.

I think that was the first time I said "why does it have to be this complicated?"

I design to suit my own laziness.
If I can figure out a way to boxify a sphere, thats what I do.
The goal being to make a complicated looking model out of not-so-complicated assemblies.

I hope people aren't scared away by the size of these 1/16 scale models.
If you've got the room, and you want to build one, then give it a try.
You'll find they're not as difficult as they look.
Just time consuming, because a bigger model has more parts and more to build.

My large scale kits are definitely not for beginners...
but I give these kits a 4 or 5 out of 5 skill level rating mainly because of the number of parts.

Funny thing is, I am re-arranging things at home...
because I have run out of shelf space!

I need a place to put this Saladin model,
but the Shelving unit that currently houses my other large scale Vehicles ...is full!

I have only one usable lower shelf and its full of books and unbuilt kits.
I either have to create a place to move this stuff or find another shelf for the Saladin!

This was another motivation to downscale my designs. lol

Morris Quad....Morris Quad....Morris Quad

(the forum equivalent of running in small circle and stamping feet)

I'd buy a Morris Quad - the iconic tow vehicle for the 25 Pounder gun.

Just need to persuade someone to design a 1/25 25 Pounder and limber.

Regards,

Charlie
