Just read through this today. And I would like to add my 2 cents worth. While I don't have a strong preference for portrait or landscape, I do want all the pages to be the same format. Going from one format for parts and then changing for instructions is just enough to drive me to distraction.

Curt...I agree.
However, I verified that when viewing the pages on your PC screen, the PDF viewer will automatically orientate the pages. So, other than the Landscape pages looking a bit bigger on your screen, theres nothing to do on your part. And if you print the pages, its easier enough to turn a page 90 degrees. Unless you are viewing the pages as you might view a book or magazine. Then you have to turn the whole thing to view those pages properly. You remember how we used to do that, don't you?

I am leaning towards leaving at Portrait...to be honest.
But I do like the wide layout of Landscape. It definitely feels like I have more room. Until I try to fit things in...and then, for some weird reason, there isn't! lol Theres also the advantage of stacked step progression down the page, like Beard says.

It's entirely your call. I just thought it might be something to consider for those of us that don't print out the instructions

Time to follow up on this...
I have been working on more diagrams for my instructs and experimenting with various page layouts. Tried to use the landscape format, but it honestly doesn't do me any favours. The actual page area is the same, so even though the page looks a bit bigger (when viewed as a PDF) I can't get any more stuff on the page. And, I am finding that there are many pages where I want to place assemblies in order. I can take advantage of the Portrait page. Having things progress down the vertically formatted page makes sense. And its easy to read without being told about the order. In the Landscape format its harder to lay things out in a progressive way without blocking and numbering things. Anyway, I've got the first three pages finished. Well, not exactly finished... the Parts numbers are not in place yet. And, theres the possibility of adjustments, additions, etc But for now, you can take a look and tell me what you think. yay or nay? Hopefully the image quality allows you to get a clear understanding of the pages.

Dear AirDave:
I am delighted to see a standard Name block on all pages with a scale nice that you are putting both English and Metric, though most of us modelers will have a metric rule around, so I feel that you could lose the English Scale and gain more page. Just my 2 pence worth, Miles |

I live in Canada, where...
my Temperatures are Celsius. My Beer comes in Litres. I drive in Kilometres per hour. and yet, when I go to the Lumber store, I have to buy a 2" x 4" or a 4' by 8' sheet. I hate Imperial measure...even the British dropped it decades ago. but, because of Canada`s proximity to the US, we are still bound to a number of American systems of measure. I've had the scale thing on my models for some time. Its usually on Parts pages, but it gets carried onto Instruct pages too. I design my models using Millimeters... always. I use Metric Rules as much as possible. And my Micrometer is Metric. But the page size is still Letter...based on inches. I can't buy A4 cardstock easily here in Canada, as many of you are aware. So I must continue to cater to the North American market. Its actually easier for North Americans to fit A4 on to Letter page (using no margins) than it is for Europeans to do the reverse. So, I can make an A4 format kit, and allow it to be printed on Letter aswell. The Inch Scale bar isn't going to provide me with that much extra space anyway. If I really need the space, I sometimes leave the whole block out and put a copyright thingy somewhere else.
